Saints academy received further recognition as yet another member has been called up for international duty. This time it is 18 year old central defender Jordan Turnbull who has selected for the England under 19 squad due to play three fixtures at the end of May. Jordan will be joined by Calum Chambers who is something of a regular for England u19s Turnbull's inclusion in Noel Blake's squad comes in the wake of impressive performances for Saints u21s in recent weeks. I watched that team in their away game to Man United a few weeks ago. In a game where our lads were frankly given the run-around by a strong United team which included Nick(?) Powell, Turnbull was, for me, the stand out Saints player, having a fine game at centre back. Calum Chambers, incidentally, played in the early minutes of the match but left the field following an injury. Good luck to both of them as they join up with the rest of the group for the tournament in Belgium.
Just mentioned this on another thread...must learn to scan down! Good news...we've always had a good academy, but not enough of our players have had call ups. Well done, Jordan.
So all our first-choice U21 defenders are now internationals? Bodes well, though I don't think we'll see Stephens or Turnbull in the first team for a while. 18 is very young for a centre-back.
Great news for the South Coast teams, as both defender Adam Webster and midfielder Jed Wallace of Portsmouth have also been called up for the Under 19's squad for the same tournament
