Evening all. Daily thread for tomorrow. Got one up at the moment and may edit some more in to the post later on this evening.

3.00 Newmarket POLICE FORCE 7/1 Forecast Price

I don’t feel this will turn out to be the strongest of maidens at all, and with those that are unraced looking nothing special on paper it may well be worth sticking with POLICE FORCE. This half brother to multiple Group 1 winner Dream Ahead shaped with plenty of promise on debut at this course in a good maiden despite only beating three home in the end. He hung badly to the left when making an effort 2f from home that day and certainly went better than the result suggests.

I was very taken by Police Force’s effort when last seen 36 days ago at Ascot, having been well backed beforehand he looked the only winner 2f from home travelling powerfully under a motionless Frankie Dettori, however that effort soon petered out as the there was zero response for pressure when Frankie asked him to win his race. The speed he has shown in his two starts so far would suggest the drop to 6f will be no problem at all and I expect him to be right there at the finish. Mohammed Al Zarooni continues to impress with his Juveniles and I am hopeful that this could be another winner.

My slight doubt about this horse is how he responds to pressure, his first effort was easily forgiven when hanging once asked to win his race but the fact he just seemed to be reluctant at Ascot is a concern, however if he opens up anywhere near his forecast price he rates as a solid bet in what looks an average at best maiden.

Monsieur Chavalier. Nap Nap Nappity Nap.

    9/4 lovely price.

Tomorrow (Saturday) we get to see the sprinting legend that is Monsieur Chavalier finally win a race this season when he takes his place in a listed event at Newmarket. He ran such a good race at Royal Ascot on the rain softened ground and I fully expect him to do the same tomorrow.
He showed his liking for soft ground in the Golden Jubilee when beaten only by Society Rock (whose form with Bated Breath to me looked good in hindsight) in the sprint at the Royal meeting. He showed a good deal of pace and I put that run down as being a long way better than anything the rest of this field has done this season.
He disappointed last time out in the July Cup but I think that was down to the faster ground and I think its fascinating that they are stepping him down in class here to a race that looks very winnable.

Macs Power ran a big race in the Stewards Cup (was my saver in the race having backed Hoof It) to finish a never nearer third, however he seems to be the sort of horse that can find trouble in a match race and I fully expect him to be doing his best work when getting out of a mess in the final stages. He is stepping up from handicaps where as the Monsieur is going the other way.

The rest of the field need to show dramatic improvements to win this if the Monsieur is at the top of his game, and I fully expect him to be just that.

A nice win bet on Monsieur Chavalier it is.

Nothing stands out for me tomorrow. Looks like I might be able to (or more like will have to) do some work outside instead of watching the racing.

3.20 Goodwood: Premier Loco 8/1- Looked a little unlucky last time to say the least- a nightmare passage and yet again very strong at the finish. In softened conditions tomorrow, you need a horse strong at the finish and who gets the trip and it is fair to say that this is the case with Premier Loco. Has chased Canford Cliffs home a couple of times and deserves compensation for some excellent efforts in defeat. Goes very well at Goodwood, which is important.

4.35 Newmarket: Colour Scheme 20/1 Has to be better than its last start and was on the wrong side on comeback behind Green Destiny, winning the race on his side of the track. Given a 100 day break since and you would imagine he will be fit and ready to go after that. Shrewd yard and I have a suspicion he will run a big race tomorrow. Juvenile form was excellent and still unexposed for me.

Hello again, people, hope all are well. Good, good. I must say that the Group 3 heat at Royal Windsor this eve looks stunning and the old racecourse executive must be delighted with the turn-out. One of the best Group 3’s staged for a while, methinks. The contest though is a ‘no bet’ one for me as I just couldn’t make up my mind about it. And as a wise old sage once told me ‘if in doubt, back nowt’. The ones that I will nominate though are:

Samitar (2.30 Newmarket) – this filly really, and I do mean really, impressed me with her win in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot. Has been given time to develop and mature since that decent effort and looks a class apart from her rivals in this rich sales race.

Paramour (4.35 Newmarket) – this 4 year-old didn’t see a racecourse until last month but he has certainly made up for lost time with a couple of corking runs. A sound runners-up spot in a maiden swiftly being followed by an effortless win in a similar heat 13 days ago. Paramour makes his handicap bow here off 86 and that doesn’t look a harsh perch. This is a very competitive race but would expect this one to go very well and whisper it quietly but Paramour could also have a live chance in the Cambridgeshire later in the term. 12/1 re this one today is huge.

Arctic Reach (5.35 Goodwood) - an intriguing runner who has been placed in his last 4 flat races but it is over hurdles where he has excelled this summer with form of -121 in juvenile heats. Is clearly most progressive at the moment and a flat mark of just 47 makes him look thrown in when considering his all round form. Furthermore, Arctic Reach will be in receipt of weight from all his opponents who, to be fair, don’t look the greatest bunch ever assembled to face the old starter.

Good luck to all those who wager today.

    Morning all <ok>

Surprised no one has tipped this one up yet so I'll have it:

    6.40 Windsor Dux Scholar (NAP)

Sent off favourite for a very hot G3 at York and finished 3rd behind Green Destiny and Tazahum, appearing to be a little bit run off his feet. The extra furlong and weight-for-age should help him today and a repeat of his York performance will surely be good enough in this much more winnable race.

AP has 2 rides at Cartmel - Colditz (3.10) and Foxesbow (3.40) should both win (even though my old favourite Indian Pipe Dream runs in the 3.40 - but he needs it firm and the handicapper has him now).

At Galway I like Natural High in the 3.25 and would warn against backing Willie Mullins' Robin Angevin in the bumper - I have backed him twice and in both races he has cruised to the front only to find nowt and get headed in the shadows of the post. Will probably hose up today but my money will not be down.

    Best of luck everyone <ok>

Watch out for non-runners, people. They currently stand at a whopping 46 today.

Arctic Reach out of the 'lucky last' at Goodwood so just the pair at Newmarket for me now - Samitar (2.30) and Paramaour (4.35).

    1.55 Newmarket – STORMING BERNARD (15/2 BOG)

Storming Bernard looks overpriced once more for what looks a good opening. This 2yo started his career at Windsor finishing a never nearer 4th after showing signs of inexperience throughout the race. He built on that effort next time out in a warm Newmarket maiden when finishing runner up to subsequent Group 3 winner Entifaadah, he took up a more prominent racing position that day and this seems to be the key to getting a good performance from this horse. His one disappointing effort so far came at Chester, I am not convinced that he handled the track that day and having dwelt at the start he raced keenly throughout and could only keep on at the one pace once asked for maximum effort. He proved that run to be all wrong when bouncing right back to form at the York Ebor meeting, again racing prominently he had a lot of the field off the bridle early and despite keeping on really well for pressure he found one too good. However that looked a good maiden on paper and there is no doubting he finished in front of some talented horses that day. He seemed to relish the cut in the ground at York so the rain softened ground should be no problem this afternoon and at 15/2 he clearly looks the value in a race that will not take much winning.

    3.30 Newmarket - MONSIEUR CHEVALIER (5/2 BOG)

Not often I will say this about a 5/2 shot but I honestly think Monsieur Chevalier is great value at that price taking a big drop in class. This 4yo was a prolific juvenile winning six times from ten starts. However a setback meant he missed his entire 3yo season. Richard Hannon has done an excellent job to get him back and despite mixed results in three runs since his return to the track Monsieur Chevalier has at least shown he retains plenty of his old ability. The key run this season is his Group 1 2nd behind Society Rock in the Golden Jubille, that effort is by far the best form in this race and if he returns to that sort of form he will win this as he likes. He has disappointed since the Golden Jubilee when only beating one home in the July Cup. He was never travelling that day and perhaps it came too soon after Ascot, he loves some cut in the ground and the fast Ground that day may have also been a hindrance. Back on soft ground this afternoon he really ought to be winning this listed heat.

    4.00 Newmarket - ITTIRAD (17/2 BOG) & COBBS QUAY (14/1 BOG E.W)

This is going to be a hard race to solve but hopefully with two horses in the race I will at least get a good run for my money. Ittirad is a horse I have followed since the start of his racing career back in October 2010. He ran a very good race at Nottingham on debut when 2nd behind a talented Godolphin horse (Parlour Games - now rated in the 90s). This was his only start as a juvenile. He got his three year old career of to a perfect start when hacking up in a weak Newcastle maiden on good to soft ground before going on to run a solid race when 2nd on handicap debut at York. This lightly raced sort was then set a stiff task when competing in a Group 3 at Royal Ascot and did himself no favours by racing freely throughout the contest leaving himself nothing in reserve to land a blow towards the business end of the race. Pitched back in to handicap company at Ripon on his most recent start Ittirad shaped really nicely back in 3rd in similar conditions to what he will face today. He could still be improving and a mark of 87 may not be beyond him. At 15/2 he offers some good value and I expect him to run a big race.

Cobbs Quay is the other runner I am most interested in from this field. I like to look for an unexposed type when looking to solve these big handicaps and John Gosden’s runner is exactly that. This 3yo Gelding has performed better than the bare results suggests when just looking at his form figures. After a promising debut at Ffos Las on soft ground he competed in a big sales race at Newmarket again on soft ground, eventually finishing 12th of 27, however there were several subsequent Group winners in that race and he certainly performed with credit considering it was only his second race course appearance. His next two runs haven’t been as promising but he hasn’t been disgraced either and for me he is a better horse on soft ground (gets that again today). He has dropped to a mark of 76 and could still be a lot better than his current mark suggests he will be.

Dan that Robin Angevin in the bumper is a wrong 'un mate - back it on its first 2 runs, cruised to the front and then found nothing. Beware.

Oddy that was the first horse to catch my eye last night and would be having a decent bet on it but for the presense of the SHC filly, who rates a big threat.

More interested in Bible Belt tomorrow at the Curragh in the 3.15...I shall be steaming in..<laugh>

    GL all.
