Right, thought I’d get back into the old swing of things and bore you all senseless with my usual Bloodstock updates! We’ll start off gently with an update of the First Season Sire standings (info from Racing Post). DARK ANGEL is currently the run-away leader in terms of prize money won (over £100,000 ahead of his nearest rival) but he is tied with the late RED CLUBS in terms of the number of individual winners (13). At the bottom of the list, and no doubt a cause for concern for his owners, is Arc winner RAIL LINK who has so far failed to have a single runner finish in the prize money from 7 attempts. The table is as follows: STALLION WINNERS–RUNNERS TOTAL PRIZE Dark Angel 13–41 32% £221,725 Red Clubs 13–49 27% £88,871 Dutch Art 10–27 37% £97,371 Amadeus Wolf 9–38 24% £57,546 Excellent Art 7–20 35% £100,393 Teofilo 7–20 35% £117,615 Moss Vale 6–19 32% £33,362 Strategic Prince 5–26 19% £50,265 Hard Spun 4–6 67% £51,790 Baltic King 4–13 31% £22,493 Three Valleys 4–24 17% £14,892 Vital Equine 3–9 33% £31,739 Jeremy 3–10 30% £41,213 Dylan Thomas 3–13 23% £47,341 Multiplex 3–13 23% £20,922 Cockney Rebel 3–14 21% £23,164 Lawman 3–15 20% £38,774 Misu Bond 2–8 25% £12,038 Sir Percy 2–11 18% £12,554 Alkaadhem 1–1 100% £8,845 Stormy River 1–1 100% £3,543 Heliostatic 1–3 33% £4,666 Notnowcato 1–10 10% £7,623 Echo Of Light 1–10 10% £5,322 Any Given Saturday 0–1 — £1,925 Teuflesberg 0–1 — £1,026 Authorized 0–1 — £332 Daaher 0–1 — £0 Istan 0–1 — £0 Mountain High 0–1 — £0 Orientor 0–1 — £192 Scat Daddy 0–1 — £0 Windsor Knot 0–1 — £3,150 Street Sense 0–2 — £481 Jazil 0–3 — £1,261 Milk It Mick 0–5 — £2,262 Manduro 0–6 - £1,983 Rail Link 0–7 — £0 Any questions about the stallions listed, just let me know.
Unfortunately he needs to start getting the winners in now. The yearling sales are just around the corner and buyers want to see results. Sadly if a first season sire does not get some c;assy fast winners in his first year he will be written off.
Obviously Rail Link had plenty of ability on the track, but he is pretty well bred aswell, so it's suprising he's not had any winnings from his runners. I would have expected Manduro to do better aswell, but it's still early days for both
Absolutely early days, but as I said before the yearling sales can be a pretty unforgiving arena and I'd expect to see the sales averages for the stallions that have not produced the goods to drop. RAIL LINK seems to have been written off before being given a chance - his average sale price for his foals dropped from 15,607 in 2009 to just 4,607 in 2010.
Hard Spun is the one that sticks out, 4 out of 6 have won! What did he do in his career and has he got a good pedigree?
Hard Spun is a son of Danzig standing at Darley's Jonabell Farm in Kentucky. His pedigree is nothing special (dam was 3rd in a G2), thought the 3rd dam was a half-sister to a Kentucky Derby winner in Chateaugay and US Champion Older Mare Primonetta. His race record was pretty outstanding - 14 starts, 7 wins, 3 seconds, 1 third and 2 fourth places. He won a G1 and two G2s at three and was placed second in the Kentucky Derby, the Breeders' Cup Classic and the Haskell Invitational. More info here: http://www.darleyamerica.com/stallions/our-stallions/hard-spun He's had just 6 runners across the globe so far, all of whom have won
Thanks PN, very interesting as always. That is some record from a modest pedigree. Would you be able to list the horses he has bred by any chance? I assume there isnt an easy way to monitor his offspring automatically anywhere?
He's had 6 runners in GB/IRE, 4 of them have won. His runners so far have been: RED DUKE MABROOR QUESTING LIGHT BURST KUNOOZ ABHAATH He's had a few in the USA as well, obviously. You can monitor entries for his progeny using his Racing Post stats - http://bloodstock.racingpost.com/stallionbook/stallion.sd?horse_id=671451&popup=1&tab=details If you click on "Stud Record" and then "Entries" you'll see what he has coming up. He has 2 horses entered in 3 races this week - RED DUKE in the Vintage Stakes at Goodwood tomorrow and MABROOR who has entries at Goodwood and Newmarket on Friday.

Had a look last night PN and his have done incredibly well. Quite a few entries coming up and I will be watching with interest and probably back a few. Red Duke today in the 2.30. Are there any of his that stick out for good breeding on the mares side?
