So put yourself in Ahleys' shoes . You buy a club with a "big name" manager, funds to spend and only you know why you bought the club in the first place.

Now Ashley didn't trouser about £1 billion by being a mug or not having business acumen.
But with Newcastle, he really has blown hot and cold with the management and shown no consistency at all, potentially harming his "investment". I say investment because that's what it is. It doesn't mean anything to him. He has no local ties and probably only knew Newcastle because of the couple of shops he had up here in the frozen North.

No, what puzzles me is the utter inconsistency in appointing managers.

Fat Sam- "big name", woeful style of football, big staff, high attention to detail ( fitness etc), sacked after spending millions
Nigel Pearson- woke up to the job. Interim
Keegan- fans favourite, hadn't seen football game in 2 years, too independent
Joe Kinnear- crony, old school, way past sell by date
Alan Shearer- local hero, no management experience
Chris Hughton- cheap to sack, cost nothing, low wages, decent manager
Alan Pardew- appointed without competition, yes man given 5 year + contract without proving himself.

When pushed to appease the fans( who might not buy tickets or shirts)he does just that ( Keegan and Shearer), but really he is a control freak. Pardew will never rock the boat or stand up for the fans. The 5 year contract is unheard of and Pardew was given it because he is being paid to steady the ship, say all the right things . Pardew has no track record of success at the highest level ( nor had many of his predecessors) . Anyone of us on the forums could play the fantasy football selection we've seen played out in the press ( should we buy Zog, Defoe etc).

I believe that the future success of the Toon lies in the canny sourcing of foreign players who currently earn nothing like the stars of the EPL and love playing attractive football. Any junior players coming through will be a bonus and we may never see the likes of AC again ( nor get as much money to rebuild the squad as well) for years.

We must hope and wait for Ashley to bale out ( which he will). He hates the backfiring of his plan to befriend the fans ( wear the shirt/buy beers), which has exploded in his face. Pardew is merely stoking the fire, not driving the train. The Fat Controller sees to that.

Ashely should have twigged on tears ago that as fans we support the shirt. However, we choose our friends very carefully.

    1. Investment yes, means nothing to him no. You don't invest quarter of a BILLION quid on something that means nothing to you.

    2. Current Prem managers who have had success (ie won something) SAF, Wenger, AVB(in Portugal), McCleish (won Carling & got relegated in same season), Dogleash (many, many years ago) & Arry. 25% of Prem managers so can hardly blame Pardew for that.

    3. Yeah we're the only club that has transfer speculation.

    4. You mean what our current transfer policy is?

    5. You've asked him have you?

    6. We've never raved how great someone was going to be only for them to let us down? Having worn my Gullitt wig first game of the season when he took over as manager and cheered Michael Owen at his signing & unveiling at SJP I beg to differ.

I'm no fan of Ashley but this is ridiculous. We could easily ended up with a Portsmouth type Arab, instead we got a guy who's learning from his mistakes and has invested vast sums in the club.

So you post this article just hours after we have won convincingly against one of the top sides in the MLS?! Please stop with the negativity. It's boring and depressing.

I'm sick of this Pardew is a yes man/puppet ****e. The first thing he did when he arrived was secure Taylor on a long term contract which is probably in the region of 40-50k p/w when Ashley wanted shot of him.

Pardew is a reasonably competent manager. He thinks, fairly reaosnably, that there is no percentage in engaging in open warfare with the owner. He knows that he doesn't have the final say on transfers and is prepared to work on that basis.

If you regard that as being a yes man, ok.

    But so what ?

Yeah, because a 'yes man' would keep fighting to keep Jose in the side even after what he said. Or Barton. Oh, and nobody else has been sold yet this summer.

When did having a manager who speaks positively in the press become a bad thing? I'd rather that than one of the mugs who spends every minute in front of the camera spouting 'woe is us' conspiracy theories, or throwing the players under the bus blaming a 'lack of quality in the squad'

Hughton was as much of a 'yes man' as Pardew is. He was trotting out the same **** in favour of the board regularly throughout his tenure. People seem to forget that, though.

Some people can't see the wood for the trees unfortunately, Pardew will forever be in for flack due to his "relationship" with the big man, and Llambias.

<ok> Which is called heirarchy .. something you come across when working for someone who pays your wages .. I personally don't agree with some of my bosses direction, but we chat about it together, sort it out, then take a unified message to everyone else regardless of who won out in the discussion .. some call it politics .. certainly not a weakness on Pardews part ..

Is he a yes man? Hard to tell but the signs are he possibly is. However if you look at the recent statement about no longer making "promises", it would suggest he is learning how it works with Mike. I'm not convinced he's a yes man and I'm not convinced he isn't. We'll never really know will we. I would question his managerial ability, but that is just based on his track record.

Someone mentioned earlier about Ashley being a guy learning from his mistakes and investing huge sums of money. Granted the learning from mistakes might help make him not the worst chairman, but it's hardly a glowing endorsement! Plus they are still making the some of the same mistakes, and to be honest this is why the hatred towards them continues. Personally I'll never forgive him, you can't really because he's dragged to our lowest ebb. but I am over it, and just keen to support the lads and await his departure. What wil be will be. As for investments, I'm not about to be grateful for that!! It's kind of a given when you buy a football club, you certainly don't buy them to make money. I'll thank him once on arrival for investing in the club, after that he has to prove he's worthy of being the custodian to the fans before people jump on board his ship. So far he has failed. And you always must remember with his investment, he'll want it all back come sell time. Indeed he will want to walk out with a profit.

    This

and the fact that Pardew may get another contract with Newcastle eventually, something Joey probably won't and therein lies the moral of the story.
