Whilst it was great news to hear that the streets were peaceful last night and that the looters and rioters stayed away, I'm not naiive enough to believe that the weather didn't play just as big a part as the additional police presence. And because of the actions of those mindless criminals intent on mayhem, robbery, violence and arson, our games at the weekend are at risk. The Police simply don't have the bandwidth to police so many games and keep order as well. So this is my plea to all true football fans: At the games this weekend, wherever you go and whoever you play : be nice and peaceful. Prove to the media, to the police, to the FA and FL, and to these idiotic thugs roaming the streets in search of an iPad or new trainers, that real football is still a beautiful game, and that spirit extends to the conduct and behaviour of its fans as well. My own club are back in the Premier League after a 15 year absence, and the thought that security and policing concerns mean that we might not start on time is horrible. I know that each one of you has been looking forward to this weekend, planning where you will be, ever since last season ended. Let's show that we're not the same as these rioters, that football is the ultimate expression of community spirit that we all dream it could be, and we can all come together and simply celebrate the sport we love.
Why not go the extra mile? Thank any police officers you see for their efforts, and let's show the police our support with a chant or two...any ideas?
Sorry to be a bit controversial but lets not pretend that all officers of the law have suddenly grown wings and halos. Ive seen many instancies of following QPR and England and various demos where the arrogance and bullying shown by some police men and women has been outrageous. I have and will continue to support the Police for the actions they have shown under great duress over the past few nights BUT think its a bit hypocritical of me to start chanting how i love the Met. Cue abuse.............
Don't think Willy's message went as far as chanting for the police, Staines! Still, if you feel like launching into a chorus of "A policeman's lot is not a happy one" when we're 3 - 0 up, then feel free...
I promise it wasn't against any one individual on here, cos the original article was VERY good and well written...Just my observations as a whole. I like your suggestion for a chant.....but if we go 3-0 up i think my head would already of exploded with joy
