Obviously a while ago, but not looking good on him playing centrally? I think he has changed his game a lot ( also the loss of being able to just bomb about) but the interesting part is that he was not the brains of the team but is now in a position in which he needs to be. Hmm.
Sorry for the derail. Back on topic - Sometimes you can't quantify what it is a player brings to the team. Gerrard has all the qualities mentioned in the article - plus. Would we have got back level pegging without Gerrard in Istanbul?
It is that area we call over here intangibles, those things you cannot keep a stat of but it is clearly important for the player and the team.
The highlighted comment is true. However, if you are going to say that then surely the same should apply to the individual awards? Ie, if there is only one of you its easier to win them!
Hope you're all sat down. I've just finished reading it Its a good read but can't help but think its pro-Gerrard rather than neutral. It makes some very good points and comparisons but I could see the reverse argument in most cases such as the one I've posted above.
