Looking back at last nights games and the game against Cesena, I thought I'd just briefly evaluate our players performances from the Italy trip.

Kenny 8 - looks as good a keeper as he did last season

Murphy 7 - very good keeper. should beat out cerny for 2nd choice

Orr 8 - showing a bit more pace and desire to go forward with the attacks, certainly deserves his chance in the prem

Hill 7 - looking at being roughly the same pace as last season, which is a bit worrying as he could get burned by a couple of pacy wingers or strikers. tackling still solid though.

Connolly 8 - very solid at centre back. like orr, likes to come up the pitch in attacks but also tracks back well. only mistakes made when paired which a much-weaker centre back

Gorkss 7 - plays best when paired with Connolly, should be our starting pair next season

Hall 6 - solid but still looks to be championship level at best

Gabbidon 6 - showed bits of why he was a premier league player but also had passages where he should be down in league one. Last night had a flashback and thought I was watching Gavin Mahon with all of his mis-placed passes

    Perone 0 - ****, dont sign him

Taarabt 6 - looks to be a little slower and weaker but probably more to do with him only just beggining pre-season, will be back to usual by the beginning of the season

Buzsaky 6 - showing bits of form the 09-10 season which is promising, always felt injuries hampered him severely last season

Derry 7 - showing no signs of slowing up, looks like the bit of steel we're gonna need next year

Ephraim 6 - hmmm, not sure quite what to make of Ephraim. he shows flashes of brilliance yet always seems to be a bit weak. put him on a steak diet and toughen him up I say

Vaagen Moen 6 - think although he could he could be a good player with time, he will spend most of this season out on loan

Smith 8 - looks to be a lock for a 1st team place next year

Faurlin 8 - still shows good distribution and awareness, shooting fractionally improved

Dyer 6 - not sure what to make, looks to be a bit of the pace of the game, with more practice could become good. until then send him out on loan for a month

Agyemang 6 - big Dave looks like a championship, when on the pitch and our attacks our focused through him, he just doesnt seem to be as strong as Helguson at holding up the ball

Boothroyd 8 - good signing, nice to see a QPR striker who can actually out run defenders for a change

I know your going to say where did you half points from, just because I can. Anyway I agree with most of what you say by .5 or so but these are ones I feel reflect these players performances.
    Smith 6
    Boothroyd 6.5
    Dyer 7.5
Buzsaky 8.5 My choice as best player on tour simply because he was much better than I expected
Perone 5 On the 45 mins he played last night he showed a glimpses of a better player waiting to unravel

Didn't watch any of these games so I'm going on SDH's apparently nice and tight critique (those rated 6 suggests a lot).

Good to see our entire first choice Championship defence stepping up to the mark in the 7s and 8s, especially Mattie Connolly and Shaun Derry for obviously different reasons!

Not surprised our diligent battler, Smithy stood up well. Can't wait for Jamie Mackie to recover properly and get back into contention to balance things up. That in itself might have a positive knock on for Dyer (wouldn't want him out on loan though 'cos I doubt we'd see him again).

Buzz on 6 (again) is no surprise unfortunately. Might happen but it's difficult to see him getting back to his best...

I wonder whether Bothroyd's presence and performance had any bearing on Taarabt's? Could anyone tell? Does it look like they can settle in the same side as time goes on?

Anyway, thanks for your ratings SDH.

Hadn't seen Flanman's take. That puts a different spin on things - especially Buzz!

i just rated them from 6-8 (except Perone) because this is pre-season and their play will change before the start of the season. Buz i'll agree could be higher however i thought he always looked a little bit disinterested and needs to regain some more of his former confidence. Dyer i think is just out of shape due to the little he's played over the last couple of years and when he re-discovers his old self he'll be good. Boothroyd looked good in comparison to the other strikers that we had. Smith I think provides the a different attacking option to Taarabt. Whilst Taarabt relies on individual brilliance, Smith plays with the team and was useful in all counter-attacks. Perone was a generous 0

Hi Super, it's funny that two people watching the same thing can come with a different opinion and to be fair i don't really disagree a great deal, however the main player I feel did really well and looked very interested was Buzz. For me it was the first time for a long while I have seen him play with determination and not too overawed by Tarbs, I hope he gets a decent run out this year and we may get the old Buzz back. Also i felt the Boothroyd looked disinterested and that's why I marked him down there were a couple of times neither him or Tarbs wanted to track back.
