Well after 20 or so minutes of fantastic, free flowing football, it became an hour or so of huff and puff football!

If Stephens had hit the target after 20ish minutes it could have been a thrashing, but it wasn’t to be.

    Player ratings

Hamer: If this guy is number one, Powell must really not rate Sullivan! Much improved kicking and some good quick throw outs, massively at fault for the goal and never looked comfortable on crosses. Not the type of keeper we need. 5

Solly: I think you all know my opinions on this guy, its ok I have the humble pie ready with extra custard! Magnificent display by the right back, the best I have seen him play. Had the wide player in his pocket and a good outlet going forward, makes Waggy worth a place in the side because they seem to have a good understanding, more on Waggy later! 8 MOM

Wiggins: Solid game, nothing to good, nothing to bad. Just ok really, think he will improve with time, but don’t think he is of high enough quality to help us push on. Can see Evina replacing him before xmas. 6

Morrison: This guy will either play for England or stay in League 1 for the rest of his life! Some rash challenges some great challenges, lucky not to get sent off. Hit the post, good range of passing for a centre half and good on the ball. Hot head and loss of consecration could be his down fall. 7

Taylor: With Wednesday starting one up top and then bringing on Lowe, who dropped deep, didn’t really have much to do. Injured Lowe so that’s worth at least an extra point! Could have scored with a well hit half volley, but other than that didn’t really do anything to catch the eye. 6

Hollands: I was very critical of him after the Bury game, but much better showing today, his best I have seen. Hard as nails in the tackle, some good passing and interchange, just wish he wouldn’t be so predictable with the long throw! The number of times Stephens was unmarked on the edge of the box and he could of just thrown it to him… All in all 7

Stephens: Poor, really poor. Missed a sitter, and had zero influence on the game. That sums it up, in a nut shell, 5

Waggy: Boy oh boy is this boy at a cross roads in this career! He has 2 real attributes, pace and can finish. Other than that well you tell me! Links well with Solly, but cant cross, hasn’t got a trick to make space for a cross and I am not sure he knows how to best use his pace. I can’t fault his effort or work rate, but if he is going to play apart in this, our promotion winning season, it must be as an impact sub. Not a winger, not a striker, but there is something. People are paid much more than me to work things like this out and I hope Powell does! 6

Jackson: Offers nothing in the middle third! Great support for his full back and really dangerous in the attacking 3rd. I think his presents stop teams even trying to attack our left side. Great cross for BWP to head over, when the knock down to Hayes was the better option. An strange one for me, part of me loves him, for his strolls into the box, part of me is frustrated by his lack of contribution in midfield (he is a midfielder after all!). 6

Hayes: Does what he does, didn’t do it really well and wasn’t poor either. A player I think may suffer as he has a direct, like for like replacement in the squad in Euall. Could be a more effective player away from home? 6

BWP: Goal scorer, out and out goal scorer. No chance, scores from out side the box; half chance, Jackson’s cross he headed over, when he should have knocked it down to Hayes; chance, his cut back to Stephens. Did sod all else, I know his value to the team, gets 7 just for those

Good report. Hamer really worries me, and why Stephens lasted 90 minutes I have no idea. I would give Chris quite a low mark for doing nothing to change things round.

BWP is total quality ,without him we have no chance of going up.
We were excellent first half, think some of the critisism unjust to be honest.

Stephens and Hollands were involved in everything first half but by Megson matching our formation they were nullified somewhat. Prutton and Semedo are old heads in this league, they'll leave a foot in here, a push there and their job is mainly to hook the ball to turn us in our defensive third. I know which two I'd rather have. The second half saw our defence hit the ball longer, bypassing our midfield, therefore their influence wained. Also, Stephens probably had that miss on his mind...had that gone in we'd have won.

I thought Stephens did ok got stuck in more than Hollands,Waggy is quick and scores if he does that consistantly I`ll be happy.
Wednesday are a top team in this lleague will be up there we are unbeaten so why all the negativity.
Maybe being there the game came over diffeent than on TV but I didnt think we were that bad.
If we`d lost it would of been a travisty.
Weds scored with their only chance that I recall.

    Pretty good report.

Powell's lack of substitutions was frustrating. He could see that the midfield wasn't exerting enough influence on the game, and bringing on Pritchard for the quiet Stephens would have been ideal for injecting the team with more life.

You make a good point about Hayes, but he will hardly have a chance if he just gets long balls played up to him all the time.

Solly again played with a maturity beyond his years.
