Far too soon for my liking, I don't know how we are going to play, I can't be sure that our players will have the right mentality going into the game.

I hate derby day, I really do. The nerves are unbearable.

However, we are Newcastle United, the team who knows how to **** things up but once in a while, when the **** is hitting the fan, we stand up, we produce a result that makes us fickle lot believe again, and why can't this be it?

Sunderland will be favourites, but we still have players who knows what it means and a lot of them who played last year. It might be a blessing. Sunderland have bought some British grit, players that will certainly knows what it means and I wish we had Nolan for that exact reason, but we have to move on.

We'll take an army down there, 2640 of the most loyal Toon fans making the 12 mile trip to the dump that is the City(don't make me laugh) of Sunderland, whether you get the bus, the train or you drive, we will all get there, take our position in front of a **** stained pink seat and roar these over paid bastards in black and white on. We outsang them last year, and even though they have cut our allocation, it still won't stop is screaming the Blaydon Races and making it travel around the stadium of ****e, making those listening on the radio or watching a stream hear us making our mark and proving we still have the best fans.

Barton is still there, we have Tiote, Cabaye, Shola, Coloccini, Taylor, all battling players who can play football. They are the noisy neighbours, the **** of Tyne and Wear, the scum, the darkside, whatever you want to call them. But we are Newcastle United, we know it has the potential to be back up there, if a certain twat would **** off.

We have a superior City, superior people with superior knowledge about everything. It's now time to prove we are the Superior football team!!

    That said, I'll take a point ;)

    We are the Geordies...

far too soon for my liking as well i'm sure a lot of mackems think this as well as we've both seen a lot of changes in our squads but you can't pick and choose.
heart says 1-0 to us but head says 2-1 to them and days of torture on here <wah>

I can hear the horde approaching...

Morning to the fans of le chat noir (due to a recent influx of French speaking players we've had to use this instead of your usual nomenclature. Forgive some of us who have trouble pronouncing 'chat' correctly.). Please wipe your feet before you come in. It's the polite thing to do.

I'm confident of getting something. It won't be like last season though where we dominated for large swathes of the game only to be denied the full 3 points by a lucky equaliser.

1-0 Newcastle with Shola scoring somehow.

I'd still be happy enough with a draw though as the Derbies are to difficult to predict.

I would take a draw also OT, don't want a goalless draw though as 2 games without scoring could dent our confidence badly. Obviously I want us to spank the manky mob, however 1-1 or 2-2 wouldn't be the end of the world!!

I'd snap your hands off for a draw right now.

Too many of our players didn't look up to speed against Arsenal. Would have preferred a few games for the team to gel and the transfer window shut.

Look, any negatives regarding the game being so close to the beginning of the season are also being felt by Sunderland. We're all in the same boat, so we aren't at a disadvantage.

We looked rusty in some areas, but it was our very first game, and despite that, we held Arsenal to a goalless draw when they had an attack force of Gervinho, RVP and Arshavin. That isn't easy, AND it was with Ryan Taylor at left back!

Our key players like Cabaye and others have had at least an hour of EPL game time now, so they know what to expect and they've had a brief chance to build an understanding. We'll be a much more assured unit this weekend, and if we managed a draw with Arsenal last week, we certainly have it in us to get something this week.

I would also be happy with a draw. As others have already said, it is going to take time for a new lads to get up to speed, and the pace and physicality of a derby may come as a bit of a shock to them.

My guts are already churning.......................and it's only Tuesday!<yikes>

Man! The build up to the derby is painful, sweet sweet pain!

I wouldn't say we've had a bad transfer window, and we've bought some real quality - just a shame we lost Jose (and Nolan for games just like this, but i wasn't too upset he left). We have to hope that our new lads know what the derby means, but i'm sure we can rely on Saylor, Shola and Barton to get them up to speed. As Chappaz said, at least some of the new blood have had a dip in the premiership already (albeit a short one) - and it was a baptism of fire that went pretty well...

Don't really know how I feel about the result. My head says a difficult game, but my heart can only see a win for the Toon - HWTL! <badger>

The match will be abandoned after Sammy Ameobi scores from the half way line and the away section explodes with sheer delight

Tbf Sunderland didn't look that great last weekend either. I expect both teams would have liked more time before the match to get some momentum going.

Annoyingly I'm stuck in work on Sat so going to have to record the game although I'm expecting a draw, maybe 1-1 or 2-2 with at least 1 Shola goal

I agree. I mean they looked like one of the better sides last weekend, but frankly, every team seemed a bit rusty. By next week I expect all of the teams will have caught up on match sharpness. Then we'll see how well we perform.

ever since bruce has came we have started the season quite strongly so im not to worried to be honest, i thinki could work out to are advantage as almost everyone of are players has had at least 3/4 full games pre season.

im not 100 percent sure but i dont think you lot had the best pre season did you? not talking about results, but your whole squad wasnt together and you had a lot of traveling around and playing on poor pitches right??

i think are lads are in a lot better shape then you might think if you look at the liverpool game we werent that good first half but second have totally dominated and were the only team that looked like wining and a lot of that was down to fitness...

anyway i reakon its gona be a tight nervous game first half, then i reakon we will take the game to you second half and fancie us for a well deserved win... ;)

    Sunderlands first two last year:

    2-2 at home to Birmingham
    1-0 loss at West Brom

Not exactly starting a season strong.
