A big day today and in all probability we will still be in the bottom three by 6pm tonight. Remember though even if we get thrashed today how far we have come in the last three years. Even in my wildest dreams I could not have imagined spending over £25 million on players in the transfer window. We are now one of the richest clubs and have just proved it. How good does that feel! We are back in the top flight where we belong and with this Chairman and manager I have total faith we will not only stay there but continue to improve. So for those of you lucky enough to be going today enjoy it and even if we lose make sure you cheer the lads off. It's great to be a Saint!
Am hoping for something as others are getting points and there are no longer lots of teams on 1 point. I accept that's just a psychological thing, but something would be good today. Looking for us to play well and hoping to see Mayuka get some time on the pitch. Gaston will be there so hope he is introduced to crowd, but we haven't done that for the others, so probably not.
Good post lamballana. People should take a deep breath and remember where we were two years ago before they post those suicide notes when we lose today!
I know that we are playing the top sides and we have played well etc...that's what I tell supporters of other clubs when I am challenged, but there is a little whimpering wreck hiding in a dark cave in my psyche that would like a point or three to settle the nerves. However, I am happy to be a Saint...a whole new club with a plan to reach the top. Supportive owners, a Chairman with a dream but also financial nous, a great manager (still learning, but also capable of learning), and a good team with some great additions.
United hate playing us and they will be as nervous as hell. We will get behind our brilliant chairman, manager and players and cheer them on to victory. I shall be looking forward to Fergie's excuses after we have beaten them.
Fergie just said (in his usual happy Scotsman mode...very similar to suicidal mode for anyone else) that Saints have a good set up with the stadium and training ground and have money now so should be alright this season.
Sadly, I can only see a United win today but I will never forget where we were 2 years ago, and I shall appreciate this 10x more
I've seen a few comments about "united hate to play us" & our perceived good record against them. Hate to put a dampener on things, but think this view is a tad outdated now- preview in the times yesterday said united have won 10 out of the last 11 meetings...
Luckily (?) my dad was a Glaswegian so I get Fergie. This growl is high praise indeed, and if you listen to Nigel talk about how supportive he is of young managers he is clearly more than simply an exceptional manager. That said, I'm with you on the OP here. Can you ever have imagined that some bright young things would have opted for Saints and not one of the "big" boys. Ramirez is here, not Anfield or WHL; Clyne is here and not Old Trafford. Obviously the attraction is first team football. We now have a role. We need to make our players feel 10 feet tall every time they step on the pitch with our full support, and then stay and applaud their efforts as they leave. If anyone whinges near me today I might get arrested. When we kicked off 10 points down in 2010, if I'd been asked if I fancied Man United in the Prem two years later .... UTS
It's got to change somewhen!! It'll be tough today and we must rejoice that it's United from Manchester, not Carlisle!
After today they will have won 10 of the last 12 meetings. For goodness sake I wouldn't want to follow any of you lot into battle. If you think you wont win then you jolly well wont. Just remember we are the fifth most successful club in games against them.
Nonsense, what we think has absolutely zero effect on the outcome. Sure, the players should believe they will win but fans should be realistic or, as we saw after the Wigan game, the comedown can be pretty hard!
Personally, my enjoyment of supporting Saints is not measured by the fact we are happening to be playing Manchester United. I go to watch my team, not the opposition. Always have, always will.
Quite right. And the more philosophical have pondered whether teams exist if they are not in the same league as Saints. It is true that I have ignored all other leagues; it is also true that i have really enjoyed the last two years in particular. I think the spirit of this post is quite simple. Games like this mark the progress made under Cortese. Surely we all enjoy this?
Agree totally. I have no control over the matches I can watch...so the idea of chasing tkts for the 'best' sides would never occur to me. I'm just glad to be there. I'm going this afternoon and I just wish all the new signings could be there. Looking forward to it, just like I will Sheffield Wednesday if I can make it.
Totally agree....I have a feeling in my water chaps and chapesses......We are going to get something from this game...........I too go to see Saints I want to see the players do well and they will.....Sadly will not be there today despite being a ST holder. Still hopefully should be ok from next week on. Just in time for the international break.....My timing sucks............
As long as we put in a performance today our fans should be proud whether we win or lose. COME ON YOU SAINTS
No doubt we will have loads of ups and downs this season, but I have complete confidence in the players, staff and Chairman. Here's to a good season, and now we can kick on!
