Christ Almighty! Doom & Gloom! 18 months ago we were just about surviving in the CCC. We have come a long way in a very, very short time. After today's result, we appear to be suicidal. Wake up folks! This is the premiership 2011. The parameters have changed since 1996. I don't mean to sound patronising.. ( That means explaining everything in simplistic terms. ) Today there is world class players representing every single club, from Wolves, Blackburn, Sunderland & even Fulham and all the way up to Arsenal Chelsea ( We're not comparative with them anymore ) Man Utd , Citeh & Liverpool Gone are the days where Nicky Summerbee , and Anders Limpar were the stand out players. ( Crap examples , but you get my drift.) Derry, Smith, Orr, Ageymang, Hill etc etc just won't cut it at this level. As good as they were in the Championship, thats what they were ..good in the championship. As I remember , most posters on here said that they would be happy with 17th, anything else would be a bonus. Well thats clearly not the case, that was a smokescreen, the worst you expected us to get was 17th place! Clearly you/ or we secretly expected better. Not the case! Let's take stock, we have signed a lot of players and surely no-one can expect them to gel straight away. What will be will be. Let's ride with it, enjoy it and see how we come out the other side. If we stay up ..great. If we stay up comfortably, well thats brilliant! If we go down, well thats what everyone except us, expected us to do anyway. All the established clubs in the prem wern't built in a day, but that is what we seem to be doing. Today's team would be hard pushed to have beaten Leeds in our last game of the season in the C'ship as well as the team that lost to Stockport 4-0. Wait and see what our best side has to offer, and then judge. For all those that travel afar to support the R's ..I salute you. You have the right to say what you will. God speed!
Can't really disagree but I think some fans are frustrated because a) wigan are one of those sides with no world class players and b) we fielded players who struggled to break into the first team last season?! Go figure....
I've just seen the motd highlights and although it obviously doesn't tell the whole story, I'm not too unhappy. It's not like we are completely out of our depth. A few milichanges yesterday and we'd have had something out of the game. Woodwork hit and 2 deflected goals, both deflections helping the ball toward the goal - certainly don't think the first one was on target. Central defence looks too frail and indecisive, I hope there are plans to sort that, but, encouragingly, the team we start with against Newcastle should be significantly stronger. We're gonna be alright.
Well said 999, there is a growing expectancy that has many getting a bit ahead of themselves. Yesterday's 'scratch' team actually did well and were not outclassed considering so many players were in unfamiliar roles. The virus/injuries/suspension left us with a disjointed side and Wigan were better in possession which is hardly surprising, they are no mugs at this level. As Warnock rightly says, the season starts from the Newcastle game by which time a number of new players will be on board. Don't expect miracles, even with the new additions I suspect we'll take a few games to see improvements and the side gel, but I've every confidence that this, along with some additions in the January window, will see us into mid-table.
Yes I have an expectation that Dave who 'has never started a match under warnock at all suddenly starts against everton and wigan' when he is obviously not good enough. If he wasn't good enough in the CCC why are we starting him now? I would have tried HH or even Hewitt in front of Dave. That's why I was wound up. We only get 38 chances to get points and yesterday was a good chance. I really don't like this 'season only starts at Newcastle' talk.
I've just watch the match on Sky. Poor old Dave, he just shouldn't be playing at this level. I can only assume that Bothroyd, along with Campbell, was still suffering from the virus. Let's hope the season does start next weekend, we can't afford to wait much longer. These are the "easy" matches!
Thought we played well in patches, on top for most of the first half,2 good goals paddy needs to grow 2foot
A sensible thread for once. Warnocks main problem has been the shiort space of time in which he has had to bring players in. The fact that there has been a virus in the club hasn't helped. We had four centre backs playing across the back yesterday. That may sound stupid, but with Orr injured, Hill suspended, Rammage gone for a while, and no new arrivals (yet) that was all the Warnock could do. Similarly with Agyemang up front. Who else was there? With incoming players there will be exits. Everyone expects Rolands and Cooke to go, but the chances are that Hulse and Helguson might also go. Gorkks and Clarke have already gone. These players will be/would have been 3rd, 4th or even 5th in line once the new signings (hopefully) come in. They can offload Agyemang in January when his contract is up, but the others need to be sold, or let go, during this window. Despite the money coming in for new players we do not want to be paying large sums to terminate contracts. We can't have a club with loads of professionals who will never, ever play. There will be as much effort going into trying to offload those deemed surplus to requirements by Warnock as is going into buying new players to strengthen the squad. I would have been concerned with the team we put out yesterday had we played those players in a match last years. Taraabt and Bothroyd aren't 100%. But needs must. With those two fit, Campbell, Young, Barton, Dyer to come in, plus more signings in the pipeline there is absolutely no need to worry ... yet. The level of negativity and vitriol (especially against Agyemang) in some threads shows pure ignorance. The "I go to every game ... I know, I was there mate .... they were all crap ... Warnock hasn't a clue .... etc ... etc " seems to be more about huge disappontment (with a touch of attention seeking) than constructive, well thought out criticism. The season does start when the squad has been built. It means more new face and many familiar ones leaving. We should have been at the stage we are now 4 or 5 weeks ago, but we know that with the takeover looming nothing was being spent. But that is history. What matters is what happens ijn the next few days - up until 11pm on Wednesday - and then in the loan market for a time after that. I'm still excited and think that we will have quite a good year. I certainly don't expect to be in the Championship next year. Patience is a virtue.
Well said QPR 999 and Eamon. I wrote basically the same on another thread. Agree with what you said. Rome was not built in a day and neither will we be. I think we can only get stronger and stronger as the season goes on. The key for me will be to pick up as many points as we can while we are going through this transition period from old to new players.
QPR999 You're spot on, now that there's a few quid in the piggy bank, expectations by some have gone through the roof. I for one, will be more than happy with 17th, anything higher a real bonus. I can understand people's frustrations, especially when we lose to a team that is perceived as a possible relegation candidate. At the end of the day, it's not a disaster, 33% success rate so far, & some decent signings. Let's face it, the future looks a lot more promising than it did a couple of weeks ago!
Well said Eamon. The biggest knee jerk reaction for me was from WBA!! I've never seen someone changes their views so radically after one game! Come on WBA.....what's going on mate? One thing I would say is, I suspect NW may have a blind spot where Pat is concerned (like many managers do with certain players).
Hewitt's done nothing (yet) and didn't look that great in pre-season. It looks like Hulse may be off to Celtic and Warnock will not want to F that up by playing him and him getting injured.
Plenty to be optimistic about. The next three days should be fascinating - then the players have to buckle down and start to play as a team. As said above, it will take time, and any early points we pick up will be a bonus. Blackpool were quick off the blocks last year and finished weakly. I expect us to do the opposite.
You won't get me changing my views that we will finish 8th and I couldn't give a toss who cares what. People need to understand what drives ambition and how to succeed clue: its not moaning about stuff at the drop of a hat . It's a personal thing I know and for me born out of tough times in the past . Ask yourself enough questions you should see the right answer. My football team is QPR and we are on a high because we became successful through hard work We are Premier league the finest league in the world we have the potential to finish above the dead wood teams trapped here why? Because we are on the up and should also know and have learnt how to take the knocks ... Some on here should look in the mirror We will survive in style in our first season back where we belong and so will Norwich as they are adapting very well on a shoestring ... Ask yourselves why that is ? ... Teamwork and spirit the same thing that got us here I suggest we open just one post match Thread maybe called the sick bucket where people can put the bile they spout into ... Swords could be the guardian of it ... You could toss off , be sick and even have a dump in it Then in the morning return to normal and refresh your dreams and ambitions for the next match ... 8th watch and learn no believers
