Ok this might sound a bit of a rant but im after the opinion of some seasoned City fans...

Just been reading some of the moronic comments left by people on the HDM website about Ash getting the captains armband for Preston. Can some body please try and enlighten me as to why Ash does not get (in my eyes) even a fifth of the praise and respect he should get.

Bottom line, Ash captained our team through 4 divisions and right up to the Primership, i don’t think any other captain has ever done this, he was a model professional throughout his entire career at Hull and what alot of people forget is that he came back from two career threatening injuries, all the while carrying a physique that lets face it looked like it took alot of work to stop him getting really overweight.

All this said people still seem to slate the poor guy whenever they get the change and i cant think why? the only reason i can suggest is that he wasn’t the most flashy or technically skilful player, but at the end of the day the leagues we were playing in weren’t exactly the best and Hull aint exactly Barcelona.

They guy gave 110% throughout his time at hull, got us all the way into the premiership and fought his way back from two terrible injuries. I can help feeling, with some sadness, that if Ash did this at ANY other club in the country he would be hailed by everyone as an unequivocal hero and legend, yet many city fans don’t seem to respect this, who the hell do these fans think they are, it makes me ashamed to be a city fan at times the way we treat certain ex players.

Ok rant over, what do you people think? i know im sounding like im pretty much in love with Ash but that’s not the case, but i would really like some suggestions as to what Ashbee may have done to erase (in some fans eyes) all that he did, gave and accomplished for the tigers.

    Cheers Guys.

I am in love with Ash. ****ing hero, legend. Club's greatest ever captain and, for what he achieved, arguably player in my opinion.

Many fans on HCFC forums said in each division he played in that he had reached his "level".

    They were always wrong.

Ian Ashbee will deservedly go down in the annuls of Hull City folklore as a true hero and the epitome of the word Legend. No player have I ever seen, in the Amber and Black, has made more of their ability than he and few have shown as much character.

The only stain on his illustrious career is his final exit which was completely out of character, ill-advised and something I have been told he deeply regrets.

He was quite simply our GREATEST EVER CAPTAIN, anyone who says otherwise simply knows nothing about football.

This is why some fans criticize him, the wound is still a bit fresh but rest assured Fadorock that given time every fan will only see him in a positive light.

City legend, no doubt at all, and he had to do it the hard way, he got as much abuse as Harper does now for a lot of seasons, people never value the water-carriers!

i hope in time that they do, as sad as it sounds it kind of bothers me that Ash maybe doesn’t realise how highly most people rate him and I feel a bit sorry for him that hes gave so much for all them years and then doesn’t realise what a legend he is, if I had his number id ring him up and tell him what F****ng hero he is haha. He should have got a testimonial; can you have testimonials for players after they have left?

I'm not sure there was any need for this article on here, there's already an article about Ash being captain at Preston and no-one slated him at all, in fact, quite the opposite.

The HDM is full of window lickers, I wouldn't worry about anything posted on there, they're all twats.

It is the way he left that pissed people off really. And maybe his antics when he came back with Preston.

Ashbee will always be a legend to all true Hull City fans. He even gained NP respect as was shown by Ash staying at capt and also playing most games. From what i am told it all went south after new years eve and his HT withdrawl from the Leicester game on New Years day. Shame as Ash ended his City career the wrong way. Another issue linked in with Bullard.

Agree with james the way he left the preston game was a pity there was thousands of city fans wanted to wish him well and it was like he had moved on and not that bothered.Even when the preston coach turned up at the kc plenty of young fans with ash on there backs clapping him off the coach and he just ran past them not even a wave or a smile.Browny was ok signed a few books and shook hands with the fans.He was our captain fantastic a legend but just let some fans down the way he left.
