Article: I really preferred the boring boring tag | Football, Arsenal

Discussion in 'Arsenal' started by Robin van Bergkamp, Aug 1, 2011.

  1. At least we were not at new depths of despair unlike the same old, same old observation that has been the prevalent feeling as at the end of last season. I'm referring to the establishment of early leads which then lead to periods of stagnation and wasted chances only to end with those leads being lost.

Same old, same old too has also meant that nothing is done to address the team's problems. Those same old excuses are brought up at post match interviews. At the end of last season, we were greeted with an acceptance that finally, change was needed and new blood would be actively sourced. Sadly, the ludicrously low offers we have made for some players and lack of activity in certain areas of want only go to highlight the same old, same old story that nothing will ever change.

Arsenal have a very difficult start to the season coming up and by September if we should gravely lag behind and be out of the CL, then I think same old, same old may give way to a change of management. That would be sad and not the way I'm sure most of us would want to remember as Arsene's closing chapter in the history of the club but it could happen unless of course he does take us away from same old, same old and lead us into a new beginning.

    Should I hold my breath?

I actually believed that Wenger would make significant changes this summer. I know the window hasn't closed yet but there haven't been any signs of him taking decisive action so far. Don't see how he expects us to get rid of our bad habits using the same players who have continually failed.

  3. The annoying thing is that Arsenal are not that far from being at the top and staying there but the management do not seem to have the foresight to plug those gaps that keep the gap between us and the top. With Man U having a lacklustre time of the first half of the season, Arsenal had a great opportunity to cash in. We all know what happened of course. I think if they would accept responsibility for the failure(s) then we might get somewhere but instead they stick steadfastly to simply explaining away why it is the cupboard is bare. Lack of action and indecisiveness is why we get the same old, same old.

It really is incredibly frustrating. Particuarly when after a terrible end to the season they make noises about 'significant actions in the transfer market' but eith 2 weeks to go till the new season we have possibly a worse squad than last years one.

  5. I'm just hoping that they were glitches in the process of regrouping. That or they have been sandbagging!!! ;)

Quite honestly, Arsene and Ivan Gazidis have the chance to do something big for the coming season. They can either sow now to reap the benefits next Spring or condemn the club to a season or two of mediocrity and do themselves out of their platinum card salaries.

What I find ludicrous is Arsene saying they are unable to place proper bids for players as they are uncertain about who will stay? So I ask Arsene, who is in control of the club? As a former employer of mine who happens to be a Gooner used to say, it's a case of the tail wagging the dog. Actually I think it's worse but like I said, they can so easily turn it around and whatever they have to pay out now will seem insignificant when it translates into success.
