Notice how quick we were to sell Routledge? He's always echoed Barton's comments on twitter.

Think he was going anyway, if Mike Ashley is here I am really James Perch.

True but with them looking to sell Barton we could do with another body in the squad.

The thing with Barton is that he is too outspoken and the top brass seem to of had enough of it. Stories emerging of Barton having a go at players and coaches including pardew after the Leeds game. Maybe they feel they don't need that influence around the squad anymore which is why the free transfer. Who knows. All I know is that we need a minimum of 3 players in now. If we get them in, then it will pour water on the flames.......for a while until the next disaster.

This is what really baffles me with the Barton issue. What has he really done to deserve special treatment. Best player in one season out of four, but a liability for most of the rest of the time. The club stuck with him through his prison sentence and gave him the chance to rebuild his career when all others in football wanted to throw him to the wolves. He fails to get the terms he wants for a new contract but instead of knuckling down and working hard to prove he is worth it he uses the media and the fans to fight his battle for him in an epic play of manipulation. He has never had to work 9 extra weekends like you have in the hope of just getting a few select days off, or work countless hours of drudgery like most do every week.

The guy is a spoilt brat like almost all professional footballers and a manipulative politician whose plan has backfired and he deserves the treatment he is getting from the club. But instead he is getting massive support from fans ... I really don't get the positive reaction towards him at all!?

If Barton leaves I can't see him not being replaced. He is far to important a player for it to ever be argued that the squad isn't weaker without him ... unless replaced of course!

Dont think he is, we signed Gosling before the board fell out with Barton. I think we'll try and get Barnetta in, he was the target earlier when we thought we'd lose Barton.

So you're happy about him going then?......................................Nolan and Barton were the backbone of the team last season, that's not to say
they would have been this season, the dynamics clearly changed with the new players brought in. We haven't got the measure of them yet either on the pitch or in the dressing room, what I can tell you is it will have an adverse effect on the team. They won't have gelled yet or formed an understanding, so let's just watch this space!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It won't be gosling. Remember, Barton was playing out of position. Hopefully a right winger will be signed to cover Barton now. We are stacked with central mid fielders.

I agree for the same reasons. Barnetta or similar will be targetted as a replacement, I'm sure of it.

I think all footballers are out of touch with the real world nowadays. Even Nolan, who seemed really down to earth for a professional footballer, said something like £40k a week was poor.

Not happy about it at all but what can we do about it now. Taking a step back and looking at the reasons why it happened then it's understandable to a certain extent. The only thing I can't fathom out is why he is going for nothing. Very strange on Ashley's part. If Barton is in then dressing room questioning Pardew's decisions then that's a big big no for me. It shows a lack of respect to the other players. If pardew has asked cabaye to take the set pieces then Barton shouldn't air his problem in front of the other players. What must cabaye think if he has been asked to do something and Barton openly questions it... That's wrong in my book. We don't know the facts and suspect we won't until Barton leaves but it seems he has now used up all his chances.

It really does baffle me how they think they can run a football club in the same way they can run a cheapo sprts shop.

He's probably going for nowt because Ashley really wants to make sure he leaves - even if it means him losing out on money.

Donkey toon, thanks for appreciating my predicament at work, I will probably end up quitting, that aside, I was really p'd off with Barton for insisting on collecting his full salary whilst in prison, I thought he was wrong, both legally and morally.
We do not know for definite what the exact terms of Bartons renewal of contract offers were, the club leave us to speculate and draw our own conclusions, each party leaks information via one medium or another, too many of the team for my liking are insinuating something amiss behind the scenes. Who the hell would come here as a replacement?

This exactly. He wants rid, so he has removed the potential hurdle that is a transfer fee in the hope that it will generate interest.

Personally speaking from a morale point of view I think it is better that he leaves sooner rather than later. I am sure that intentionally or not his presence at training and in the dressing room will prove to be harmful to the team.
