I wanted to add this in defense of Ze Liverbird and to maybe discuss the more negative parts of being a Liverpool fan at the moment.

It's been great since Kenny took over and we are really riding a wave at the moment. Todays game against Hull doesn't matter but I feel Ze Liverbird posted a valid thread (What a load of crap) and was shot down a little and the post locked (I think by himself).

I think the point he was trying to make was that Kenny and the management have done a good job of bringing in hopefully the right players but have done a poor job so far at getting rid of the players that don't deserve that shirt and it's about time it was sorted out. We have a huge squad with way too many average players and I would prefer to sell maybe 6 or 7 players and bring in 1 more quality player.

You could see in the 2nd half that the players were up for it and I was happy with the performance but in the 1st alf Joe Cole put the final nail in is coffin for me, there's no effort from him and very little quality, Poulsen is the same and N'gog I won't even talk about.

The club do need to sort it out and I'm sure they will, but wish they would get a bloody move on.

Exactly! I didn't lock it, I didn't make it an article either <laugh>.

It's not that I think they've done a bad job getting rid of the players, it's that I hate Hodgson and the previous owners for giving them such high wages making them extremely hard to get rid of. Nobody wants to sign an average player for £7m that's on 90k a week; that's what we're facing with the likes of Poulson, Cole etc...

Even if we sold them for free, the clubs where they'd belong don't have the money to pay their wages.

The first half today told a story in itself of exactly what Hodgson did to the club. Even Rafa's crap buys - Plessis, El Zhar etc.. could be relied upon to play a role and had some attributes.

I admit Downing etc.. looked good, but when the rest of the team is crap it takes an extraordinary player to make a difference. What happens when Suarez gets injured, Carra breaks an arm, Reina can't start the season due to his operation and Lucas gets ill. We end up playing a similar team we played in the first half effectively, and against a premier league side that's scary.

    Thanks Luvgonzo.

Well said. <applause> I thought Ze Liverbird's post was good and brought up some valid points. I think the reaction to the thread was a bit harsh to be honest.

We have the basis of a strong team but take away parts of that team and we are left with some utter ****e. Players like Poulsen, J.Cole and N'Gog are probably really nice people but the performances they have put in have been awful. Simply not good enough.

There were some positives to take from the game but there were also some negatives to talk about. There is nothing wrong with that.

I would say we need a left-back and then we can spend the rest of the transfer window clearing the deadwood out.

It's the deadwood that is the problem, we have a strong squad and plenty of cover in every position. The management has tried giving players on the fringe of the squad a chance (Cole, Poulsen, N'gog for example) and Kenny was really let down today by those players and it wasn't just today. In the first 2 friendlies Cole and Poulsen have just gone through the motions.

Wilson is young but I'm not convinced he has what it takes, Maxi is past it also.

What I liked was Carroll seemed up for it so did Downing, Adam played with effort.

Flanagan battered someone within 5 mins and Spearing was also aggressive, brilliant to see that! They are young players trying to get into the first team and were playing like it mattered.

I also though Aquilani tried but was left with no back up and that Kelly and Robinson were trying but had no quality around them.

I don't know how to do the clap thing but it is for all....... people were saying ( and I think he is for sure off to city) why would we need aguero...... ahhhh so N'gog fits the bill? hell no! We want the best and the best comp in every position. nuff said. We can look at city and say well they have no defense but they keep buying attackers, well look what silva, tevez, dzeko, balotelli, johnson, milner did for that team. DEPTH. I think Kenny knows fringe need to be fooked but it is hard on those wages ( Jova just diggin his heals in to get a free paycheck what a piece of S****!!!!!!)

Also, this game showed why we need more cover for LB, CB why we bid for Zapata and Clichy, but my article was blown off like speculation, when in truth, it is what we need! We can;t win without defense! Soon I will give a link to my summer season to put emphasis on my point!

The first half was dreadful.I'll tell you what it reminded me of.....Arsenal.Plenty of possession and no penetration. We had less up front than Posh Spice.
When we did go forward,Ngog went out wide, there was nobody in the box.
I always believed that Kenny put an emphasis on getting as many players into the 18 yard box as possible. There was none of this yesterday.
However the second half was much improved, the Carroll,Henderson,Downing combination is encouraging, but the damage was clearly done in the first half.
That be said,by the time we play Sunderland in the first game, our defence should be far stronger,It will have the old reliables back in.I still believe that we however need a left back and a centre back.I'm a little bit worried if we end up having only Skrtel and Kyriagkos as centre back options.
Martin Kelly was unusually sloppy too.

I think Ze had every right to panic and run around like a headless chicken if he felt like it. These things can scare the nervous and infirm.

The most negative part of being a fan at the moment is all the headless chickens running around.

So gonzo, poor job of shifting players? How would you balance the books and construct these magic deals that will offload these contracts we're legally bound to? How will you get clubs interested in players we don't want but expect them to buy for over the odds? Lord Sugar will see you now.

I imagine you're the type of person who sits around twiddling his thumbs thinking "It's got nothing to do with me." As **** falls around you.

I find it incredibly hypocritical that you're slating people for negativity, when it's you who comes out with the snide comments against everyone if they don't agree with you.

Well at least we're attempting to get rid of the rubbish on our books. We could have followed Alex Fergusons example and offered them new contracts.

I agree with Ze's points to be honest, not only in his other thread but this one too. We still don't have that marquee signing we were promised, Downing is good but I'm afraid that he might be like Rooney at the 2010 World Cup, the rest of the team played poor, then so did he.

In my opinion we need to just get rid of Poulsen, N'gog, El Zhar, Kygriakos (Sp?), Degen, Jovanovic, Cole, Aurelio (Too injury prone) and Brad Jones.

Once we do that, sign another back-up striker, a centre-back and a left-back. Aswell as possibly another winger.

Why? The back-up striker will mean we will have Kuyt, Carroll and Suarez. One young striker added to this would be good for the depth of the squad, what happens when Carroll gets injured? Suarez and Kuyt is deadly but surely we need a quality back-up? A centre-back to cover both Agger and Carragher as one is injury prone already whilst the other is on the wrong side of 30 and slowly needs to be drawn out of games. A left-back to allow Johnson to return to right-back and move Kelly to the bench. That way we will have Insua and our new left-back for that position. The new centre-back, Kelly, Agger and Carragher for the main central defence, aswell as Skrtel. Five centre-backs may seem alot but with injury prone players and the possibility the left-back might slip up and force Johnson to move to that position and Kelly to fill in at right-back, its enough. Possibly another winger who CAN give us that little bit of a uplift when we lose Suarez/Carroll/Downing to injury, for me that man is Mata.

Transfer list them would be a start, it may reduce the value but most are not worth much anyway.

I don't want this to turn into fighting with each other though we all seem to get along and see no reason for that to change.
