With 2 and half weeks left until the start of the season and still no strengthening to the defence or clear resolution the the Cesc or Nasri saga why has Wenger not been called into more question!! Yes several (and I mean several) seasons ago I would have had faith that Wenger would know what he's doing and it'll all work out (i.e Selling Anelka and bringing in Henry for example) but for now i simply don't and am genuinely nervous that we won't be able to scrape 4th again. We don't know how much he really has to spend but with the sale of several properties and sale of some squad players how have we not strengthened more? Man Utd won the league but at least they were pro active in strengthening straight away!! I understand that we might have more ability to negotiate with other clubs at the end of the transfer window but that doesn't seem to work when it comes to Arsenal (Schwarzer, Xabi Alonso, etc.) Wenger is one of the highest paid managers in world football and should accordingly be held to answer for what he achieves in his position. Others have achieved more and lost their job so why is he so protected. I honestly believe that had we had recent successes that Cesc and Nasri might want to stay, no ambitious player wants to stay season after season of failure. Just over 14 days left and we have a really tough start to the season, I really really hope Wenger has a plan and he's able to pull it off but right now I have no faith that we'll improve the squad to the level needed and if we do have another season with nothing to show we have to ask for a change at the helm!!
There may be only a couple of weeks to the start of the season but the transfer window is open until August 31st.Whilst Arsene Wenger is the manager he will always have my full support On a side note,my cousin lives in North York
The problem is Wenger isn't under much pressure to succeed. He is making money by consistently getting in the top 4, qualifying for champs league, advancing past the group stages, a brand new stadium charging high ticket prices and little or no money spent on players. He bascially is making loads of money for the shareholders, so why should they care what Wenger achieves. He could run up and down the Emirates stadium naked and he'll still have a job for life. Never underestimate the power of money!
For what it's worth this could be the make or break year for Arsene Wenger. If the team comes up empty-handed at the end of the season I dare say the pressure fro him to go could be to much for the board to bear. It preys on the nerves that we are not further advanced in covering the midfield and LB positions. We may need a CB too judging by the discussions on this board so I hope Wenger has an exceptional plan for the weeks ahead since all his grand plans of the past six years have come to nothing. It's not all his fault since the players have to bear their proportion of the blame but the absence of a Plan B, players out of position, not covering the back four when Vermaelen was looking a likely absentee and the lack of a defensive strategy are all in his bag. And for my money, he seemed clueless as to stopping the rot of the final run up to the close of last season. He has to make changes or we won't be playing in the CL after this year.
Perhaps I should stay away from NewsNow but each time he's looking to spend some money ( by which I mean as little as is possible ), it's always youngsters he's looking for. I appreciate that his rationale is that they will repay the club in loyalty when they ' come of age ' but given the absence of trophies and other clubs wiling to pay silly salaries, is his rationale not a little irrational? If he is going to spend money, this year he has to spend on experience and players who can deliver the goods now, not nearly TYA or whenever.
He is brilliant at winning Board support - no surprise there then. Why? 'cos he gets us into Europe every year on a shoestring. Year after year the fans can see what we need to have a go at winning something. AW always operates at bluff and counter bluff trying to shave another £1m or so of the price. If the scouts have convinced him to buy xxx then pay the bloody price! Missing out over £1 or £2 million is madness.
Wenger has lost it. The fixes are bleeding obvious, not fixing them is bleeding irresponsible. Goalkeeper, Proper Centre Half who can defend, Proper Defensive Midfielder who is disciplined, unadventurous and can tackle, Left sided Midfielder/Winger, top Class Striker to partner/compete with/replace RvP
It's bleeding obvious; if only Wenger would just sign a proven world class player in every position. How come he doesn't know that?
Making the top 4 every season is something good. Arsene has to be admired for the amount of money he's made us. So what if the money isn't reinvested in the squad. When the fair play rules kick in, things will look rosy for us.
Yes admired for the first few seasons but if thats the only thing you'll acheive with one of the TOP clubs in the prem, then that isn't good enough. Add to the fact that fans pay the highest prices for tickets and get mmmm - not winning anything, not proper reinvestment into the squad and your best players leaving. That is a slap in the face to the die hard BIG PAYING fans. Not winning anything for 6 YEARS, YES 6 YEARS isn't good enough. Sounds really bad when you say that about a club of Arsenal's calibre doesn't it. They couldn't even win the friggin Carling cup from a pants Birmingham team!
We need to put the high ticket prices argument into perspective.Whilst i agree our dearest tickets are the highest in the premiership, the majority of our tickets are comparable in price if not lower than many other clubs.I can think of going to Blackpool,WBA and Everton-to name a few-where their fans paid lower prices for tickets at the Emirates than we did at their grounds
