Cast your minds back to four years ago, Norwich City FC were in turmoil having just been relegated to the third tier of English football for the first time in fifty years. Little did we know at the time just how dire the finances were and how close we were to going into administration. Enter a new CEO by the name of David McNally. To be honest I didn't really know much about the man and I would suggest that not many Canary fans did. However, this man was to transform the football club with his 'no nonsense' and 'ruthless' attitude. Gone were the days of 'nicey, nicey Norwich', he had a job to do and whatever it took he was going to succeed. We owe an extreme debt to this man and if he's not already in our 'Hall of Fame' he bloody well should be. Together with our Manager and scouting team, he has just instigated a brilliant bit of business securing the multi million pound signature of Ricky Van Wolfswinkel and I keep pinching myself as I really can't believe the turnaround in NCFC's fortunes. If someone had told me four years back that today we would be playing Premier League football and smashing our transfer record bringing in a top striker from Europe I would have tried to have said person sectioned ! When Paul Lambert left us many feared that dark skies would cover Carrow Road again and I must admit I had real doubts about our ability to survive under a new man. However I, like many others, said at the time that it would have been more of a catastrophe had we lost our CEO and I think I've been proven right. At the end of the day, would we really be where we are now had a certain Mr Doncaster retained his job ? OTBC IDMWT
He is awesome, the whole team are, really is amazing to think not that long ago we bought David fox for 50k and now we're buying one of the hottest striking talents in Europe for 8.5m! We are in the big time to stay, and a lot of that is down to the back room team under McNally. Very pleased! I'd love a statue of McNally with his "Mcnasty" face on, hands on hips, outside carrow road. Just as an example for fans to remember "we are Notwich City and we are not going to take any more ****!"
He was the turning point in this clubs recent success FACT as you say where would we be now under Doomcaster? It doesn't bare thinking about ! If CEO'S were valued as players are he would surely be in the range of Ronaldo or Messi ?
Not forgetting Doomcaster's 'coup de grace' - Cody MacDonald for two bags of jelly beans and a meaningless friendly Way to go, Neil, you w@nker!
Yes, as one who started out in the 70s with Sir Arthur South, I would certainly vote this the best CEO and Board in my time. Credit to Delia and co for moving Doomcaster on and bringing the McNally era in. I'm not so sure that 'ruthless' is the best epithet, I'd say 'businesslike' and 'determined to do whatever is necessary to succeed', and for him the business is football, not land deals or other diversions and the RVW achievement is simply the latest in a long line of brilliant achievements!
Agreed, though there is without doubt an underlying 'ruthless' streak. Like saying - and meaning, none of our players were up for sale in the January window Plus he comes from a footballing background, having worked for Celtic and Fulham, whereas his predecessor, Doomcaster joined NCFC as company secretary and was promoted upwards - largely through desperation and naivety, one suspects. Like replacing Walker with Deehan, followed (O'Neill apart) by Megson. And eventually we had Gunn, Crook and Butterworth in charge It used to smack of 'jobs for the boys', but those days are gone and we're thankfully now made of much sterner stuff
I saw recently that a certain Mr Doomcaster took a £28,000 pay rise. I’m sure there are a great many fans up and down the country who don’t even earn that in a year!!!!
I don't understand how someone who pushed us to the brink of administration has effectively been rewarded with a promotion in the SPL. Surely he should have been judged on previous work, and there must have been someone with a better track record for the SPL to hire. As it is, he seems determined to drive an entire league into administration!
I quite agree and especially when the SPL revenues are falling. He should have taken a pay cut, not a pay rise!!!
there is an old adage, i believe it is called "the Peter Principle" which states that " all people are promoted until they reach their level of incompetence ". this was never more true than with Doomcaster. oh how different things are now with Mr McNally at the helm. not the slightest trace of incompetence will ever be seen from our board with him there.
I will never forget the incredulous look on Doncasters face when a reporter questioned whether he should still be in charge after relegation (or after sacking of Roeder). He genuinely thought it was a stupid question.
The odd thing with Doncaster is that he somehow got promoted beyond his level of incompetence, rather than getting stuck there. Unfortunately the Peter Principle states McNally will get promoted beyond us, precisely because there is no trace of incompetence.
Top four, is that all you're aiming for!? I totally agree with ur point btw, I'd rather have the best for 10 years than the incompetent for 30! (And anyway, thankfully the turnover for CEO's is so slow that the Peter Principle probably doesn't apply)
If Neil Doncaster remained at the club we would find ourself in two scenarios the first one being we simply wouldn't exist anymore as a club the second we'd have some despot owner who would buy the club on the cheap and suck the soul out of it by rebranding it or changing it's identity. Doncaster was hammering the nails into our coffin, he should just stick to law or whatever he originally done as a profession as he is a truly appalling business man and chief executive. I dread to think of the mess McNally inherited as we were losing money left, right and centre. On twitter when I've seen fans crying to McNally about trivial things like the price of a pie I sometimes feel like jumping in and telling them to wake up. McNally has turned us from a laughing stock to properly ran business his the most important asset at the club in my opinion.
I think David sent a beautifully translated (English - Portuguese) message to Sporting about our intentions. He looked at the whole situation from their point of view and allayed their fears in a correct and succinct manner that allowed us to bring in RVWW over and above the twonks who run our competitors. Good on you David.
