Right he has been here quite a while now and played alot of games last season and at points kept out Matty Fryatt and Martyn Waghorn from the team who are players that scored alot more goals then him. He played down the middle for a few games and look decent and scored 2 goals and then we signed Yakubu and then he got pushed out wide again. When ever he plays on the wing he doesnt do anything to the team. He doesnt create chances and he doesnt look like scoring in a month of sundays. He doesnt even threaten to score a goal. He infuriates me when he plays and he has ability but doesnt know how to use it. He uses all his tricks and runs away from goal. 4 goals a season is pathetic for someone who is meant to be a striker and before people say he was playing on the wing, Naughton was a right back and got 5. So where do people stand on him, do you want him at the club, are you happy with him on the wing? I think he should be on the bench and used as a STRIKER not a winger. He just goes missing as a winger. With his pace, coming on as a sub he should cause people problems
he has pace to add. Could actually turn out to be the lone striker if given a chance, he looked very threatening when played there. Just not a great finisher.
As a striker i think he is decent but not enough of a goal threat but as a winger i would prefer Dyer, Moussa or even Dany N'Guessan
Completely agree, Proud. He's another one of those infuriating 'wingers' who always looks like he can do something, but most of the time flatters to decieve. He's very quick and has good skill, but he often chooses to play it easy instead of going at players. He usually has one mazy run a game, but his final ball is poor. He very rarely has an end product. But you're right, he's not a winger and that's why he's struggled out there. He was impressive in December and in the Man City game when he played down the centre, he started scoring goals and his general hold up play was good. I would have been pleased to see him play there for longer but pushing him out wide was a bad decision. In truth though, he's not a goalscorer and never has been. Even from the wing, 4 goals is pretty poor. He is a good player, but with the money we've got to spend now I think he's a bench player, not a starter.
I hope he is only a bench player but Sven always seems to play and doesnt see the bad sides to his game while he is quick to get ride of other players and drop them.
I know what you mean, on the other hand - he's got a bit more competition than last season. Sven has always seemed to rate Gallagher and if he performs like the second half of last season I can't see how he can not play. He's also signed Nugent and is looking for another striker, so he is likely to favour those players as well. Hopefully teams will be selected on merit, and hopefully we'll have a settled side and Sven won't mess around with the line-up too much.
Look how long it took Sven to drop Yakubu at the end of the season, Yak was cruising for too many games then got dropped came on as a sub and scored 2 goals. Sometimes players need to be dropped for their own good
Yes I agree. If Yakubu comes to us he has to be managed in this way. If he starts to look lazy or has 3 bad games in a row, he needs to be dropped.. He needs to know his place in the team isn't safe. The problem is Sven didn't have enough faith in Waghorn to put him in, hopefully this season Sven will be completely happy with his squad and will be more willing to replace players if they aren't performing.
I think we could do with another 2 strikers, sign either Maynard or Yakubu and then try and loan a player from one of the big clubs
Diomansy Kamara has signed for a Turkish club so thats why he hasnt been linked with us for along time
I thought he would have been a good signing myself, liked his movement when he was with us and he has had impressive seasons at this level previously.
Kamara was class against Burnley but crap every other game, i dont think its a massive loss we didnt sign him but i would of liked us to sign him
He is old. Enough said. He and howard make good players when we are winning. We need a striker fast. Sven splash the cash in time for madrid
if we are willing to pay £5 mill + for maynard, im sure SGE can grab his lil black book and find some european talent who have the ability to be leathal infront of goal.....
having seen darius up front on his own tonight i havnt changed my mind. if we played him up front in every game this new season he would look dangerous but only score 4 or 5 goals--and only in games we were winning easily for me jes at best an impact sub
Vassell works very hard when hes up front and wins quite a few corners, free kicks but when hes on the wing he seems doesnt do anything. He is more anonymous then Andy King. As a winger i dont think Vassell is good enough but as a striker I think he is a decent back up striker
