2.00 Leicester- Oscan 8/1 e.w- Looks a smart type on paper, Street Cry colt related to Mastery (St Leger winner in 2009) and is a half brother to Group One winner (Grand Criterium) Kirklees. Kirklees was beaten a head on debut before beating Pires with ease on second start, and fast tracked to Group Two on third start, so there's a chance Oscan will be quite forward.

2.10 Lingfield- Dark Ambition 5/1- Shown better form in handicap/nurseries and gone close twice. The 3lb claim of Adam Beschizza is a nice bonus and this should go close. There are a few nursery debutants who look dangerous, though it has to be said I feel some of them could do with a step up in trip, and therefore I'm keeping faith with Dark Ambition having backed him the last twice. I thought he would be shorter so 5/1 is about right for a small play.

    3.30 Leicester- ROSAIRLIE 12/1 e.w (NON RUNNER)

Rosairlie showed a fair bit of ability in some hot enough maidens at the back end of last year, most notably finishing 5L fifth behind Sadlers Risk (rated 97) and this weeks St Leger favourite SEA MOON (rated 121) back in second. Also Estourah, 3rd that day, is rated 82. Rosairlie was then doing her best work late in a Salisbury maiden on reappearance over a very inadequate 7f and did not trouble the leaders. Interestingly the smart form behind Sea Moon was over 1m, so clearly the stamina needs drawing out to see her to best effect. She was tried over a mile and a quarter on handicap debut last time and didn't go unbacked (into 6/1), and seemed to be a little outpaced 3f out before staying on again in the final 200 yards. Tried over a mile and a half today, 12/1 looks a tempting each-way bet and she looks handily weighted against a few more exposed sorts.

Good to see you fancy Rosairlie too Toppy! You've also done a write up so considering my tiredness I am delighted I won't have to do 1. I'll add a few things such as its Harry Dunlops only runner at Leicester tomorrow where he boasts an extremely impressive 2 wins from 3 this year, and 1-1 with 3 year olds. Kieren Fallon takes the ride for the first time on Rosairlie and has 1 win from 4 when teaming up with the yard. I agree entirely this horse has been crying out for a step up in trip and 1m4f should suit perfectly tomorrow. She seems versatile on any ground type and the only concerns I have are the form of the trainer isn't great and the horse flashed her tail a few times. I would be shocked if her mark of 68 is beyond her and hopefully Fallon can get her home in a race whose title contains his name (who knows he may really want to win it for that reason!)

I also like the look of 3.10 Lingfield Oil Strike 7/1 quite a bit.

Oil Strike has 2 wins to his name so far, both on the AW, and although hes probably better on that surface he certainly is no mug on turf either. His mark has started to fall despite what I would consider to be a series of rather encouraging efforts. Back in June off a mark of 87 Oil Strike was well supported into favourite before being ultimately undone from a poor draw before an eye catching 3L 4th to Kanaf, who has since had 2 excellent races finishing 5th in the Stewards Cup behind Hoof it and in a Class 2 Handicap behind Secret Asset of 6lb higher.

On Oil Strikes next start he was once again a well supported favourite where he was said to have found the very undulating Ripon track against him and as a result finished well down the field and I am willing to overlook this run. LTO Oil Strike was once again heavily supported from a morning price of 16/1 into 6/1 when dropped back to 5f for only the 2nd time in his career. I don' think this move suited and from another bad draw he had to come from last and although he travelled well he couldn't make up ground quickly enough on soft ground at the stiff Sandown.

Oil Strike steps back up to 7f for the first time in over a year and I definitely think its a positive move. He is down now to a mark of 84 and he finished a head 2nd off a 1lb higher mark over 7f last year so on that evidence alone he has a great chance. He also drops down to a Class 4 for the first time since that effort which is an obvious bonus.Furthermore, I think he is a better horse a year on and I am convinced he is well capable of winning of this mark. He has been in relatively decent heart this year and has performed better than the bare results show. The fact he has been backed heavily on his previous starts demonstrates to me that connections echo my sentiments and with Willy Carson booked for this first time for the inform Peter Winkworth I am quite confident if all falls together and he acts on the Lingfield track then Oil Strike will register his first win on turf.

    Morning all <ok>

AP makes a rare visit to sunny Sedgefield today for 2 rides for Alan Swinbank - Priceless Art in the 2.50 and Bandanaman an hour later. The former should certainly win to follow up his cosy Bangor victory and bring up the century of winners for AP this season (sounds strange saying thatat the begining of September <yikes>). Bandanaman faces a tougher task in what looks a wide open handicap hurdle and I think he may struggle to give weight to the likes of Jeu De Roseau, Overbranch and Balamory Dan who could be interesting for Will Kennedy in first time visor.

Nap for me today goes to Executive's Hall in the 3.20. This one fairly shot up the weights after running up a hatrick over hurdles in early summer and switched back to the bigger obstacle last time out when 3rd to course specialist Soul Magic at Cartmel. There would have been enough juice for him in the ground that day and today's surface should suit much better. He is dropped a pound for that effort and looks primed for a big run today.

    Best of luck everybody <ok>

I'm a fan on Bandanaman in the 3.50 where Dan says Jea De Roseau is the winner. Favourite and well backed last time he really struggled to get round but stuck on extremely well. Half a mile out he looked well beaten but got better and better as the race progressed and was just unable to peg back the winner but was gaining with every stride as the line approached and just failed to win. Today's extra distance is sure to play to his strengths in a massive way. Given how he travelled last time out this one seems like a dream ride for McCoy and I am a confident of a huge run. If AP can't get him round first then no one will.

I backed Bandanaman with a big bet the last day so i'm out to retrieve some of my losses.

Quick edit - it does wind me up that Swinbank has chosen two very competitive races for this horse to run in over the course of the last few weeks.

Morning, one. Morning, all. Hope everyone well.

Good to see that at last we are down to a much more manageable 3 cards during the week (although why 2 of these fixtures today have to have 8 heats is beyond me). Anyway, rant over today it has to be a 'no bet' one for me as nothing really catches my eye. Maybe though a most impressive performance will be revealed by one of the many unraced 2YOs debuting today. Here's hoping anyway.

Meanwhile, some very, very, very interesting news is that my old fave, the legendary Tataniano, is likely to be stepped up in trip this season by Mr Nicholls. The Old Roan Chase and the Paddy Power Gold Cup are both possible early targets. Therefore, hold, and I do mean hold, those Champion Chase wagers on Tataniano, people. Whatever distance this one goes though I’d be Amazed with a capital ’A’ if he didn’t go through the term unbeaten.

Emkanaat is the nap today, poor on debut but I expect a big leap forward today in a poor maiden. The price is very fair today too. I like it a good deal today.

Good afty gents, hope we are all well today... Not much to have a go at and not much to be confident with if you do have a bet...

AP should bring his 100 winners up, (and as you say Oddy were only in Sept...!!!) but which one. Im favouring The Kealshores Kid in the first of his races, the 3.20, with AP on Executive's Hall as i just think The Kid will be the better jumper and Executive's Hall record isnt the best over the fences... But we shall see...

Bandanaman should bring him a winner in the 3.50 but they should be good races either way...

Nowt much to get excited over in the others but there might be a bit to nibble at as the day goes by...

Good luck to all who play today... <ok>

redcgull maybe my post was misleading ................. AP doesn't ride in the 3.20, Tinkler is on Executive's Hall. 2.50 is AP's other ride - Priceless Art (8/11).

I see Mad Max has left Nicky Henderson and joined Neil Mulholland, who did such a fabulous job with my old favourite Midnight Chase last season. Be very interesting to see what effect the change of scenery has on him - I think it will do him the world of good and can see him being a real live contender for the old Grand National <ok>

  13. One from me today in the 3.50 Sedgfield Cailin Na Ri 14/1 EW NAP course and distance specialist, with 5 runs and figures of 2-1-2-2-1, all off a significantly higher mark than he runs off today. With young claimer Henry Brookes he runs off a mark of 95 and running to his best is more than capable of getting back to winning ways.

Yorkies unlucky mate, but yeah very happy with the point. Need to follow up with 3 points against MK Dons on Saturday. Another difficult game tho with them flying high and ex-players seem to have a knack of scoring against us ....................

The NAP is a non-runner so one I would like to make a case for is 3.30 Leicester FAITH AND HOPE 7/1. Been given a break since a disappointing handicap debut, but there was a fair bit of promise in maiden company and against a pretty exposed field, looks a real interesting contender. James Fanshawe has booked Kieron Fallon, and they have a 42% strike rate together this season, with 8 wins and 5 places from 19 runners.
