Tomorrow PNE play their second consecutive away game when they travel to Derbyshire to take on Chesterfield in their Div 1 fixture at Chesterfields new home the B2net Stadium.

The two clubs sit together in the league table both having gained 1 pt from their opening two league games.
The Spireites as Chesterfield are nicknamed are the 4Th oldest club in the football league, but have never played in the top flight of English football. Their most famous player is of course Gordon Banks of England and world cup fame.

The game itself gives both teams the opportunity to get their first league win under their belt and move up the table.
PNE having lost two points at the Irons by allowing the Irons to level the score inside the last 4 Min's of the game, will be looking to make amends tomorrow and will be looking for all three points. Due to injury's and late new signings PNE have yet to settle and gel as a team, with players having to play out of position to fill the gaps. There were however strong signs of things coming together against the Irons last Saturday, and PNE might consider themselves very unfortunate not to have come away with all three points. Phil Browns decision to play a 4 3 3 formation in the two opening games (plus the Carling cup game) has not realy payed dividends thus far, although things were going quite well against the Irons for a large part of the game. Most fans believe a team formation of 4 4 2 to be the best option but P Brown may yet prove that 4 3 3 is best. We will see.

PNE team selection for this Chesterfield fixture is going to be interesting with PNE having signed two players late last week, but I suspect that neither will be match fit as yet. It could be that the young PNE right back Conor McLaughlin has recovered from injury and if so he will be pushing for a start, but I suspect that McLean will keep his place at right back with youngster Daniel Devine keeping his place in the centre of defence. Whatever Team Phil Brown decides to go with they will be expected to win by all the PNE supporters, PNE do need to get the win and start putting points on the table and start moving up the league table.

I believe that PNE will win and by more than one clear goal, but what do you think is likely to be the outcome of this away fixture ??? what do you think the team will be or should be ???, how do you feel about team formations ??? . Use this thread to let us all know what YOU think.

For those who are interested in such like, Chesterfield FC get's its nickname "The Spireites" due to Chesterfield Parish church Spire being twisted and out of shape. It is the largest church in Derbyshire and is quite famous for it's "crooked spire". Follow the link below for more information about this unique church spire.

Believe Conor Mc back in training today, yours truly will be wending his way to the B2Net, bet you it hasn't got half the ramshackle charm that Saltergate used to have and I bet the toilets arenot open to the elements as it was at Saltergate.
Expect us to win this one, have to keep an eye on Jack Lester though.

    Morning maclad..<ok>

From what PB has to say, looks like Smith could be playing at left back tonight with Parry probably playing in front of him.
Hope you have an enjoyable trip to the game tonight, and have something good to tell us all when you are back and have the opportunity.

We need the win and are capable of getting one for our first league win of the season...<ok>

Thoughts on team selection and team formation for tonight's game ?????

    A 4 3 3 formation could be :

    Turner.
    McLean.
    Carlisle.
    Devine.
    Smith.

    Coutts.
    Alexander.
    Parry.

    Mellor.
    Proctor.
    Hume.

    Or a 4 4 2 team formation could be:

    Turner.
    McLean.
    Carlisle.
    Devine.
    Smith.

    Mayor.
    Coutts.
    Alexander.
    Parry.

    Mellor.
    Hume.

Anyone else any thoughts on the above formations and team selections. ????

From the BBC it looks like 433, would have prefered your 442 selection Plumber. We need a win, Mr Brown needs a win or the heat will start to rise. I still lack confidence in PNE to put in a tough 90 mins and dominate the other side for significant periods. Someone, somewhere posted PBs win ratio and it was not good reading, lets hope tonight his team, because it is his team, show some bottle and take 3 points.
    21 Turner
    05 Carlisle
    12 McLean
    14 Smith
    18 Devine
    22 Alexander
    08 Coutts
    10 Nicholson
    07 Hume
    09 Proctor
    33 Mellor

A terrific first league win of the season for PNE by all accounts and one that was thoroughly deserved according to the minute by minute match report.
The team are starting to gel and with a natural left back in the side, the balance of the team was much better.

I will leave "maclad" to post his observations and report following his trip to support the Lilywhites.

PNE have improved their performances in all the games they have played so far and things are beginning to fall into place, which augers well for the rest of the season. Being fair we have to acknowledge that the managers decision to play a 4 3 3 formation is beginning to pay off, along with the change to a 4 2 4 formation when the he feels it neccassary.

I know Marcos has posted the PNE team above but I will do the same and include the Chesterfield team.

PNE: Turner, Carlisle, Hume, Coutts, Proctor, Nicholson, McLean, Smith, Devine, Alexander, Mellor.
Subs: Tsoumou, Mayor, Parry, Clucas, Arestidou.

CHESTERFIELD: Lee, Talbot, Mattis, Downes, Smith, Whitaker, Allott, Niven, Holden, Morgan, Lester.
Subs: Fleming, Bowery, Boden, Randall, Lowry.

As you can see Steven Smith replaced Paul Parry at left back for tonight's game - it was Smith's first full start for the Club after coming off the bench against S****horpe on Saturday.

Well done PNE and the same to the travelling Northenders who gave the team superb support throughout the 90 mins.

It is worth pointing out that Chesterfield were promoted as Div 2 champions last season with an extremely good plus goal difference, which of course does mean that they can score goals and have a sound defence. Many teams who get promoted carry that promotion form into the higher division, but on results so far Chesterfield have not as yet come to terms with playing at the next level. None of this should detract from PNE's performance tonight, had PNE not been up for tonight's encounter following their disappointment at dropping two points at the Irons last Saturday tonight's result might well have been different.

It is also worthy of note that PNE had no less than four of their very young players involved at some stage of the game Procter, Devine, Mayor, and Clucas.
At 18 years of age both Devine and Proctor are now becoming regular first team members and if playing 4 2 4 Mayor might well become one as well.
Carlisle is having a real impact on Devine's learning curve talking him through each game, the centre of defence is part of the backbone of the team and Devine is showing maturity beyond his years. Proctor is also part of the backbone of the team playing as a striker and he too has made his presence felt playing alongside Hume and Mellor. There are other youngsters awaiting their call besides the four involved tonight, with Conor Mc now recovered from injury who has already showed his potential in the first team.

A very good night for all concerned tonight so once again well done PNE.

Easy win last night, if we'd had taken our chances we would have got 5. Still not overly convinced on the 433 system but we won. Smith did well on debut. Nicholson ghosted in a la Martin Peters to head the ball in and a Carlise header from a corner with the first.
Coutts thought star man, if we can keep him fit would be a big player. Got to thinking if we had kept Treacy we would have had lethal team.
3 points though up the table.

Great result and it sounded like we controlled the game. This win will breed confidence going into saturday and to Notts a week on Saturday.

    Thank's maclad..<ok>
Sound's like you enjoyed the trip to Derbyshire and bet you drove home with a smile on your face..:)
As PB comments in todays LEP this should be a platform for PNE to build on and it's important that we capitalise on last night's result in our two home fixtures.
Player confidence should be building and they must be able to see that they can be a match for any team in this division now the team is settling down as a unit.
Consistency is going to be the key as to how far PNE can go this season, and with competition for places being hot, it should ensure that players are kept on their toes when they get in the team.

No one can get carried away after one win, but PNE have improved after every game so far, so there is room for optimism both on and off the field.
If the team can have the same level of support when playing at home as they are getting playing away, the team will respond accordingly and Deepdale can become a fortress again. So it's onward and upward hopefully then the club and it's supporters can forget the despair that has been prevalent since our relegation last season.

There is room for optimism now.
