Its not often I start a topic but I have been thinking. Trying to ignore the media speculation:

The way I see it is Bruce wanted to go for Nzog, but he didnt, we can speculate over the reasons why, personally I don't think the fee was a problem but the wages might have been. There were rumours of Welbeck but even though Bruce said he was interested he always maintained it was very unlikely Fergie would let him go.

Earlier in the Window SNQ and SB both said there would be no big signings until well into August. Steed is about to leave us, Riveros has gone on loan and I expect others to depart very soon.

To me we are gearing up for another signing or 2 even if its on loan. I think all along Bruce has had a game plan for this window. He got in some experience and some potential very early to fill the gaps. All along SNQ and Bruce has had a plan, they are never going to tell us or the press what that plan was but they have given hints. Obviously Nzog was not part of the plan, neither was Welbeck.

I might get shot down but before the end of this month I predict 2 new players coming in. I don't know who and and I don't know where from but we will see 2 more.

    I think your right pal

Look at last year we hadn't been linked with Gyan until the season had got underway.

Brucie will of enquired about a few players over the last couple of weeks I would bet money on it, maybe its a case of nothing can happen till we get rid of Steed, Angeleri and McCartney or maybe the club with the player at needs to bring in a replacement first.

We aint finished in this transfer market I am sure of it

    IMO

We need a top top class LW in the same class as Sess and Gyan and we need a CF even if its only onloan

    Hope your right Vegas.

We were told last year the spending was over prior to the Gyan deal, as poolie has said, personally i can't comprehend that we've done so much great work this summer and we don't have a plan to finish the job, as it where.

Just got of the phone to my mate who was at Hartlepool, and he says we were superb second half, said Sess and Gyan were superb, and that there was no obvious lack of width.

    Anyone else at the game?

Seems to me that the market is about to step up a notch or three - something on SSN last night showing that there is about £150m less which has been spent in this window than there was in the full equivalent window last year. Once the roundabout starts to spin more players will become available ( eg the Torres transfer in January allowed the Carroll move etc) whether on loan or for sale.

I hope SNQ and SB have a plan and believe they will have, whether they can pull that plan off remains to be seen and, I suppose, depends not only on who we release (that we want to get rid of) but also whether or not any of ours get targetted by others with big offers. For me we could still lose Gordon (is he injured at the mo?) and Catts (and maybe Turner or Ferdinand).

Still a long time to go before the window closes - we (well SB!) played the opening part of the window really well, let's see how it closes before we decide if it has been a success or not - time to come yet

It's like someone said the other day, few of the big clubs have made a move, and that usually starts a chain reaction.

Bruce has even stated this himself previously, the club may well have a joker up it's sleeve.

I think when the team get up and running, players like Whickam and Gardner will do well Seb larsson gets the crosses in, O shea solid with Wes brown helping.

I managed to get through to the game and we were excellent second half with Sess and Colbeck my stand out players.

Brown looked solid and Catts got round the pitch far better than he did at York.

The corners were also much improved too, with Larsson on duty.

Now the negatives..... Elmo and Larsson on each flank won't work, Larrson needs to play on the right, not the left. Elmo needs to be benched.

Gyan was o.k but very rarely got in the box (mainly loitering around on the left flank 2nd half). If we play 4-4-1-1, he needs to stay up top.

The most bizarre moment of the game was Lawrence (the hartlepool tranny) lifting his skirt in the away end..... Only in Pools

Good post vegas, you should start more and I got a feeling you may be right with at least one player coming in.

Bruce said again yesterday about the left hand side and how in selling Steed it would be selling our only left footed winger.

He said more would follow with Angeleri and Ringo all but done it seems.

All along he says he is happy with what he has, or put it another way he says sorry club chairman but I will stick with what I have rather than be screwed, typical Bruce/Quinn tactics.

Everyone is waiting for things to hot up, Moderic, Fabregas being two and how often do we buy a player that nobody mentioned?

Maybe its just wishful thinking but maybe its not..

    Cheers Ken <ok>

Was there any sign of understanding between Sess and Gyan? This could be the key to the season for us.

Significant that every game Larsson has played, people have noted his delivery, our last 'set piece specialist' (Reid) was a fraud, the benefit of actually having one for those tight games could be monumental.

Worst part of the game last night had to be Solano assault on Sess.... ****in' horrendous challenge !
Would surely have been a red if in a competitive game (or Germany!)
Was subbed straight afterwards, so Wadsworth obviously wasn't impressed either.
To make matters worse, the little **** scored too!

Not at the game but the chap on SAFCTV said their understanding was looking good. I think Larssen on the left was a one off to test it, they tested and it did not work, test over.

I have a feeling something is already set up with one or two players, but like it's been said, their club (s) have to find suitable replacements, so by the end of the month I think there will be at least one that'll raise a few eyebrows

    Good to hear.

It's essential we use Seb correctly, he's not pacey, so playing on the wrong wing and cutting in was never gonna work.

His delivery is going to be a weapon we have lacked since the Reidy days, and with Dong & Whickham being big lads, should see a definite increase in the goals for tally.

    16 days till home...

    shieldscat,

    Agreed.

If it's Johnson, i will have a boner for a week! (Don't think it will be though...)

Spoke to a lady at work yday (a Boro fan) who used to deal with him and his family on behalf of the company I work for at Peterlee. He was indeed a mag when younger but all his family are season ticket holders at the SOL. She reckoned he would have come to us in a heartbeat if we had bid for him before city stole a march!

I think if he is up for a loan we are better placed than Everton.

Nee one's bought very much yet, so the transfer roundabout hasn't even begun yet..........

Maybe we have blown our beans a little early, but here's hoping for a second bash............
