I always get angry when Jenson Button wins. Not because I hate him, because I know what's going to happen. Yes the Forum will be ruined by constant Jenson bum-licking by Hump-Pherey and DC and Brundle. The only one who doesn't and is fair is EJ. I am not blaming Jenson whatsoever let me just get that straight, because he cannot do anything about it if he is good freinds with them outside of F1 and the eye of the TV. It is the presenters who are at fault. You are there to present a show/sport, you do not under any circumstances show bias towards your favourite driver/friend or whoever unless you are asked. It is getting past the point where I can take it now, they need to sort out there Bias otherwise people are gonna get more angry. The constant Schumacher Bashing, Hamilton always at the top of the News Feature, Webber defending and others just take the biscuit. Also it annoys me how DC always bigs up Red Bull. He needs to shut up and be impartial and use the facts. EJ is fine apart from sometimes where he can get a bit over the top. Brundle sometimes takes the piss. Hump-pherey is the worst of the lot. Ted and Lee are fine.
I'm not sure how to react to this but being bias is a human trait which is hard to ignore I suspect this thread has been written because you are bias towards Lewis, which is fine. There is one thing that I do agree with and that is DC. I said when it was announced he was going join the commentary team that he would be incapable of separating his Red Bull job from his pundit job, and to be brutally honest as a pundit he is crap, Martin is constantly asking david for an explanation of technical stuff and rules and he either makes it up as he goes along or says back to you Martin, the one that springs to mind is when DC started talking about the shear angle and Martin said explain to us what the shear angle is, and DC just mumbles something and said back you Martin, pathetic. edit I have been searching the web and can find no such thing as a shear angle in relation to anything let alone F1 shear force yes but angle no. Anyway I digress I'm not sure I see the BBc's bias towards Button but then again I'm bias towards him, so that rules me out of giving an opinion. Quite famously Murray Walker was and still is massively bias towards British Drivers and Damon Hill in particular but I didn't or don't see anyone calling him to task on it. Martin does do a bit of Schumi bashing but they have history and so does DC.
Against Schumacher yes, for Button no, aside from the british Bias that Hamilton and Di resta also get . I feel Di Resta is getting the most of the bbc's love at the moment.
It's impossible to be "unbiased" because it's a natural human trait in us all. Only a complete "newbie" could be unbiased, and even then psychologically he will soon favour 1 more than the others within a short time. Nationality, race, looks, height, attitude in certain situations...etc all mould our views on people, even without meeting them. Hell I might think Seb is a complete ****er but found out Lewis was my long lost twin brother or something. Hell at least the Hamilton fans can agree the bum licking for Lewis was far more obvious on ITV than BBC with Jenson/Paul, though I'm sure they didn't mind it for those 2 years. All bets on Sky favouring Lewis.
There will always be an element of bias in all forms of communication, not least the media. Total impartiality is unrealistic and practically impossible. Furthermore, anything close to it tends to become unemotional; and oddly enough, it tends to reduce audiences - who tend to prefer a sense of excitement (within reason) in the voice and personality of presenters and commentators. On balance, I think the BBC have done a thoroughly marvellous job; and with Legard out of the way, most complaints are of minor irritations - although I do agree with the above criticism of Coulthard to some extent. The unfortunate aspect of having two experts in the commentary box is that it can appear contrived when Brundle tries to encourage more participation from Coulthard by asking leading questions - to which he himself knows the answer! Unfortunately, Coulthard is actually in Brundle's shadow when it comes to the ability to communicate some of the technical aspects of F1: this was never a strong point of Coulthard's as a race driver either, where once again, Brundle excelled (and still excels on the all too rare occasion he gets into a Sportscar). Back to Cameron's general criticism of the the Beeb's coverage: I'll repeat my opinion that the BBC do a simply superb job and one would be hard pressed to find a less biased presentation anywhere in the world. And incidentally, it's worth remembering that the first B of BBC stands for British… mephistopheles: 'Shear angle' is a slightly inaccurate term (when used in the context of the above discussion you mention), which refers to the 'point' when a tyre's slip angle* gives up its normal, predictable lateral grip through being subjected to excessive lateral load. In fact this is not a point at all (hence the misnoma) but a rapid transition from usable grip to no usable grip! Just before this occurs, the tyre experiences very rapid wear rates with the associated blisters and more commonly; 'marbles' (where material from the contact surface is literally rubbed off on the track surface, just like an eraser when rubbed on paper). Going beyond the shear angle of the rears almost always results in excessive oversteer (a spin), whilst at the front the car will 'push' excessive understeer (a straight line) until sufficient speed has been lost or the wheels sufficiently straightened in order to regain grip. *Slip angle is the term used to describe the path of a tyre relative to its longitudinal alignment on the track surface, whilst it is still offering usable grip. Therefore 'shear angle' occurs at the absolute limit of 'slip angle'. - And if DC wasn't ready for Brundle's question, perhaps you can see why he waffled back "over to you Martin"!
The way I see it, the presenter should remain professional and impartial, as difficult as it is not to show where your passion lies. As mentioned above, Eddie is the only one who is the least biased.
Heard him say at nearly every GP; "I'm a BIG! fan of Lewis Hamilton" If you have recordings of the BBC coverage look back all the way from 2009, he has said he is a Hamilton fan at 1 of every 3 Gp's. I'm not starting something, but Eddie's "impartial" views are just the same as the other 3 chimps that present the show...
not as biased as rtl germany where every show is a presentation on vettel although seeing german girls screaming with vettel foam fingers is quit funny
Thanks for the info cosi I think I understand but the thing is it was DC and not Martin who brought the subject up, so he should have been informed, before he started talking, and I'm sure Martin had no intention of making him look foolish. Martin would make reams of notes before a race were as DC seems to wing it.
Aah yes, you're right Mephisto. I could not remember who brought up the subject; but if, as you say, it was DC himself; his "Over to you" to Brundle was a bit of a cop out wasn't it?!
I watched the Valencia GP on Spanish tv this year, and I kid you not Alonso was mentioned in basically every sentence, regardless of what was happening on the screen. It didn't bother me as I was watching it in Spanish so I was expecting them to be bigging up their man.
When it comes to national bias, as a nation we are quite reserved, compared to continental europe anyway. If you want to see bias, go stateside. A friend told me a few years ago that when scott speed got the toro rosso drive, american motoring media people we're bigging him up as the greatest driver ever. Of course, we across the pond, back in britain knew he would suck.
J Legard is currently commentating on a game in the football league show. Its only a 5 mins highlight game but he's already agitating me
