I thought you had missed off a 0 with lot 100 but I checked on the website! Can't believe he was sold at that price
It seems like a good price but it must be remembered that pedigree is only part of the equation. He might have been an unimpressive looking indivdual for example.
It does happen. Most sellers will be selling at least 5 or 6 yearlings and in the current market they will be hoping that one or two turn a large enough profit to cover the margin on the others. A few years ago in the USA there was the case of the Kentucky Derby winner SMARTY JONES who was retired at the peak of the stallion market with a fee of $100,000. by the time his yearlings reached the sales the recession had hit and the average price his yearlings achieved was just $10,000. Ouch!
Fireworks at yesterday’s second session at Arqana after Michael Goodbody went to €1.7million for Lot 138 a Galileo filly out of a half-sister to SARAFINA on behalf of Australian owners Waratah Thoroughbreds. A little earlier the same connections went to €500,000 for a Galileo colt from the family of ELECTROCUTIONIST. The top 5 lots were: 138 f GALILEO – Sanjida - Waratah Thoroughbreds 1,700,000 125 f MONTJEU – Prudenzia - Badgers Bloodstock 600,000 119 f DANSILI – Platonic - Course Investment Corporation 500,000 133 c GALILEO – Royal Highness - Waratah Thoroughbreds 500,000 187 f MANDURO – Ventura - Demi O’Byrne 400,000 Interesting to see Demi (Coolmore) signing for a yearling by a Darley stallion!
