Over the last 5 days our heads have drooped very badly. Before last Thursday we were very confident of Qualifying for the Europa League Proper and winning all our SPL games up to the Celtic Rangers game at the end of September. Our dreams are now thoughts of despair. What has gone wrong? Have the Celtic players lost their ability in the close season. Commons looks a tad over weight, everyone else looked fine. We got players in and we have lost key players through injury but we had players injured last season as well. Is it Neil Lennons fault ? Of course it is bound to be the boards fault, I don't think a Celtic board has ever satisfied us Celtic fans no matter how much is spent. Should it take the board spending money for Celtic to beat ST Johnstone, I don't think so. I think our Players have lost their confidence, typical example was Commons half/hearted attempt to take the penalty yesterday. he didn't look just before he took it that he was relishing the taking of it. Jesus, how many penalties have we missed this year, What the hell is wrong with our players, have they no f..... pride. Commons looked for most of the game, frightened like a rabbit eyes in headlights of a car. Why all the lost of Confidence? Can they not play in front of 50,000 + supporters. Fortress Celtic Park. That is a joke. Are our fans intimidating our players ? Is the hurling of abuse getting to them ? Can they not take the loud groans and booing ? Maybe they can't and maybe that is their fault. We can blame the players, the management and the board; but it is not easy for us fans to change and guarantee improvement to board, management or players. However what we can do, it may or may not help, but what we can do is bring back the Celtic Park roar, get behind every player make Celtic park a safe haven for Celtic and an awful hell for opposition players, referees and their assistants. Basically that is really all we can do, moaning about board, abusing players won't help us win matches.
I was a hell of a lot more confident at 6 o'clock on Thursday evening, than I am now. Even after the nil all I wasn't too depressed as I thought unlike last year when we had a 2-0 lead, this time Lennon and the team know exactly what they have to do. That is score (imagine penalty shoot out.) Last season team didn't know should it go for a goal or should it defend. After Sunday I don't really know if Celtic could beat any team. The second half was just as bad as I have seen from the early/mid 60's. Defence was terrible, midfield had no cutting edge and we just didn't have strikers. Our players didn't want to take on responsibility. I have never had confidence in Danny but he was a man-mountain compared to the man who played yesterday. Maybe good that match is in Switzerland, Celtic fans won't be able to do any more harm at least this game, although I think they have destroyed the confidence of the squad in our last two games.
I know where your coming from ,but blaming the fans !!! If Commons scores from penalty the fans and the players are on a high and Celtic would probably have run out easy wiiners .Last season we lost the league because of missed penalties , this season has started the same . Commons missed his last two for Derby before coming to us , granted he has netted the ones so far but at no time did he look a good penalty taker .Mulgrew or ki will now take over.
1-0 inside 2 minutes we would have won quite comfortably & we'd all be talking about how the confidence is up for Thursday. The team that played St Johnstone should have beaten them, probably should beat them 9 out of 10 times. It was a bad day at the office. Lennon should have bought on Murphy or Samaras rather than changing wingers & lumped the ball up a bit more. Thursday is a totally different game to Sundays. We were expected to go forward & break down 1o men behind the ball for large portions of the game, Thursday we will be the ones sitting back abit more and hoping to catch them on the break. We do well on the counter attack, alot of chances we create come this way & we look threatening playing this way. We struggled Sunday as there was little space to play in because it was so crowded, Thursdayon the counter we will have more space & we have players who play better on instinct rather than the technical ability of threading perfect passes like Barca!
It was the manner and attitude that got the fans annoyed and rightly so, they where bullied by St Johnstone not Real Madrid or AC Milan. We can understand getting beat but not with a whimper.
They say you're only three games away from a crisis but your euro match match was fine if not depressing for the fans. Sunday was a wake up call for the players and fans. It'd certainly shut you guys up with your fantasy football beliefs and faux squad depth. I just hope your players don't get the wake up call and continue to play with their heads down. However, I don't think that'll happen and I believe you'll bounce back and also get through to the UEFA Cup as will the Gers. They say you're only three games from a crisis. History has proven it to be true through the years in the SPL. I know what I'd like but I know it won't happen
I concur with the sentiment of the post. Commons does look over weight and his mind else where. The same is applicable to Keyal Pre injury and Pre season. I think he is beeling because the board blanked paying him a higher salary. The board were correct, he has not helped us win anything significant and again he looks disenfranchised. In terms of Lennon. Some of these players will get him the sack. Maloney is **** and is a one trick pony with these step overs. Samaras only scores 3 goals a year and gets a new deal wtf. Murphy is rotten, stokes is reasonable and why they are commiting another 25k a week to Brown i will never know. Lennon is on a shaky peg
