I noticed the other day that we were coming up to a decade at St. Mary's!! I thought to cap this impressive milestone I would pile up a few stats for you Saints fans to ponder about. I must admit its been a hell of ride with the stadium its shared a lot of memories within the supporters and the players who are lucky enough to play on it!! For £32m it must be bargain of the century for a stadium, look down the road they spent £100m on a 22,000 seater!! Not wise might I say. The stadium has picked up many accolades along the way with numerous pitch awards, even Robert Pires said it was one of the best pitches he's ever played on!! Right onto the stats, these include league and cup matches only!! 248 games- 120 wins- 70 draws- 58 lost In total Saints fans have witnessed Saints score 603 goals at an average of 2.4 goals a game!! Aren't we spoilt, haha!! Premiership average crowd- 30,905 Championship average crowd- 21,818 League 1 average crowd- 21,571 Record crowd v Arsenal 32,151 Around 6,017,992 have watched the mighty Saints at St. Mary's over the 10 years!! Well I hope the next 10yrs will be as exciting as the last 10yrs and I look forward to seeing Saints become a dominant force at the top of the game!! Who knows we may find ourselves in an expanded stadium come 2020!!
Happy birthday SMS. Certainly seen some ups and downs, but now just up, up, up. The best thing Lowe did was finally build us a ground, where many had failed before. Pity he couldn't handle the finance to pay for it as it was the mortgage on it which drove us into administration. Still, we're in a new era now with lots to look forward to.
Yes, but what a poor start at the stadium. I was there at the first victory, and by that stage there had been an exorcism performed, and there was a rumour doing the rounds that some Pompey suppoirting contractor has buried a Pompey shirt under the pitch! On the other hand, I have had some fabulous days there and I feel that there will be many more to come. Happy Birthday SMS.
