I finished "Rebecca" on Thursday, I would rate this as one of the best novels I have ever read. About 75% of the book sets up the menacing story before there is an incident which leads up to explaining what has happened previously. The conclusion twists and turns through a number of possibilities before a surprise and very satisfying ending. It was impossible to put down and the book was very well structured and written. I will not say any more because the story relies on surprises and do not want to ruin anyone's enjoyment. You can see why it is a classic and papreciate its enduring appeal.
