http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21572865 Mathematically possible, but this would involve Man City going into meltdown and us having a really good end. Getting 3rd should be our main aim and the game against Spurs will give us a clearer indication on whether we get a Champions league finish. From now till the end of the season should be one cup final after another. Any loss of concentration or intensity will see us drop out.
I think it's more than mathematically possible for us to finish 2nd but whether we can do or not is a completely different matter.
One good thing is that, barring a miracle in Munich, the league will be our only competition to focus on. The game against Spurs is massive.
It will be intersting to see how bad his injury is.If he is out for a while and with Stretford still to play ourselves,Citeh and the Chavs things could still get very intersting at the top.
Our main aim is still to win the CL and finish as high as possible in the Prem. 2nd is still a possibility so he is right to have his team at least try for it as to tell them to only worry about getting 3rd would be ridiculous.
It's called being positive. Rather than going for 3rd (as pointed out earlier), the team should aim higher and then secure a better spot of 3rd. He's trying to rally the players and fans forward. I think you should be more worried about facing Fat Sam than what Wenger is saying. You have a very tough game ahead of you today at Upton Park. You better pray Bale and Lennon don't get bashed in too much...
2nd is as possible as finishing below Liverpool as it stands and I don't see either as realistic. I seem to remember Redknapp being mocked for saying we could win the league though so maybe Wenger is opening himself up to ridicule too. I'm a firm believer in not saying stuff like that in the media until you've proven on the pitch that you can do it. Personally I hope it has the same effect on your team as when Rodgers claimed 2nd was a target, prompting Liverpool to fall from 11 points behind to 17 points in the space of a few weeks.
I bet i'm less stressed about us finishing top 4 than you are. The memories of you losing all those points last season and finshing below us, must be fresh in your memory....
No chance of second, because yesterday it looked like Yaya Toure was back in form and that guy is a one man wrecking machine, so I can't see City dropping too many points. Third though, is very much up in the air, and if we can get it, then that would be huge because we do not need to play any qualifiers.
Are you seriously trying to compare Wenger with 'Arry? Anyway, Bill Nicholson had it right - "It is better to have failed aiming high than to succeed aiming low..."
You probably are as it's more important for Spurs to finish in the top 4. What that has to do with anything I said is anyone's guess. I'm comparing what Wenger said to what, 'Arry said as well as the reaction from your fans. And that's not the full quote, as I'm sure you know but are you seriously equating Bill Nicholson's philosophy to Wenger aiming to finish second in the league?
Not sure when Wenger said this thing about possibly finishing in the top two, but it could be before City's game against Chelsea and they did look like a team that was in all sorts of trouble before that game. Because, with the title all but gone, you could have kinda seen them losing motivation and slipping into the battle for the Champions League places. But that win over Chelsea was huge for them and now there is little chance of them not finishing in the top two.
Probably the main reason why Man City struggled to keep up with Man U. Yaya is one of the best midfielders around, simply magnificant. People just bounce off the man. He would be my ideal pick for midfielder for Arsenal. Yaya, Wilshere and Cazorla, what a dream midfield....
That has. The pressure is on you as you have most of the same players playing for you, remembering what happened last season. The pressure is more on Spurs than on us. Wenger has experience of guiding us to top 4 finished like always.
I think it wrong to compare them as equals simply because AW has proven to be the better manager by far. Comparing 'Arry to AW is like trying to say AW is on a par with Mourinho or Fergie imo. As for the bit I posted from Bill's quote - absolutely right it's appropriate, not only for AW, but anyone that aspires to achieve. You think otherwise?
The real question is, if we do get second, are we still going to hear the shrill cry, "But we are getting worse, year after year!"
What I really want is for Arsenal to finish with less of a points gap to the top than they did last year. That to me would represent progress.
