http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27323407 Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said it will take a "miracle" for Manchester City not to win the Premier League and has congratulated the champions-elect. League leaders City are two points clear of second-placed Liverpool with one game remaining. "It would need really a miracle now for them not to win it," said Wenger. "Congratulations to them," said Wenger. "They won a marathon and they turned up in the last 100 yards. But they turned up when it mattered. "Liverpool had an outstanding second part of the season and are maybe the most unlucky team of the season because they were nearly there as well." The Frenchman paid tribute to City's free-scoring attack and said it is something the Gunners need to emulate next season. "To be completely honest as well, a team like City scored 100 goals, so you have to say that their offensive potential has been absolutely brutal and fantastic," he said. "We have scored 66 at the moment and that's certainly where we have room for improvement." Too early to say? Probably not. Good to see a top manager properly congratulate their fellow managers. He also highlights that we need to improve in the attacking department, so this could mean that Wenger is looking to bolster our attack. I hope so.
100 yards represents 0.2% of a marathon. 0.2% of a season would be the last 8 minutes of the final match of the season. City were top at the start of feb and have been hovering near the top for most of the season, generally losing top place only when they've played less games and had those games in hand. They certainly did not 'turn up in the last 100 yards'. AW does talk some s4it sometimes.
Your totally correct, I'm astounded by your incredible intellect. It's very clear that wenger was being literal with his analogy and had obviously worked out the exact percentage that 100 yards represents in a marathon. Your a genius man.
"You're". Even if not taken literally... you're trying to tell me you agree that City have only just started performing in the last 100 yards of the title race? Literal or not, AW was talking s4it.
Lol at correcting grammar. This is an Internet forum dear boy. And it sounds more like you have a chip on your shoulder about wenger than any opinion on what he is saying
There's not caring about grammar and then there's your posts. Anyway... regardless...I could just as easily make a baseless claim that it sounds like you have a chip on your shoulder about anyone that does anything but praise AW. I agree with 95% of what AW said in that statement but the other 5% just makes me want to
There is a table that shows how long each club spent at the top of the table this season. We are top with 128 days and City are fourth with 11 days so I can understand what Wenger is saying.I really don't think he was speaking literally .
How far away were they from the top spot points wise? My guess without even looking at this table would be they were never that far away, and games in hand and opposition played, was the reason for their lowered positioning. City was the favorites before the league started and they remained favorites throughout. There are no surprises.
I'm not in the least bit surprised that Citeh will win the league but up until a couple of weeks ago it wasn't in their hands.
That is true, but as they say its a marathon and who ever is the most consistent and holds up at the right time too, wins. Liverpool had a good run but failed at the most crucial point, whereas City were the most consistent against all opposition.
Class, as always, from Wenger Not the sort of class you see from the thugs at Park the bus on the Stamford Bridge
Let's face it, this is pretty consistent throughout (a good run right in the middle but consistent throughout): City: WLWDWLWWLWLWWWDWWWWWWWWLDWWWWDWLDWWWW Bottom line is... City's run in is not why they're champions. And this is us: LWWWWWDWWWLWWWDLDWWWWWDWLDWLWLDDLWWWW That run of 3 wins in 11 games completely screwed us.
