True say. Last thing you want to do after having a flurry of games is face a team from Fat Sam on a cold, wet and windy afternoon....
Fair play to the tube drivers striking. That's what Arsenal need. Someone with a bit of backbone to give the hierarchy the two fingers when they're not happy.
....or it could be that they are just a bunch of miserable, selfish, money grabbing so and so's who are holding the rest of the hard working public to ransom -
I thought they just wanted extra for working a bank holiday.I see nothing wrong in that.I wonder how many people who are criticising the tube drivers will themselves be spending Boxing Day at home with their families.
Have to agree with the others on here - they are just money grabbing ****s! They have perfectly good contract conditions and seem to strike at the drop of a hat. During the olympics they where going to strike because they didn't think that the BONUSES they where going to be paid just for going to work during the olympics where enough.... How the **** can you strike because the EXTRA money you are being given for doing YOUR NORMAL JOB isn't enough??? Did all McDonalds workers get extra money because they ahd more custoemrs than usual? No **** off. Sorry but they are ****s. Same as most people who take industrial action these days - BA crew, post office etc... I very rarely see any decent reasons for strikes, it's always some greedy **** wanting more, or stupid people who don't understand how business works.
It may have something to do with their employers being a bunch of ****s.Striking is always the final course of action.
I've been on strike a number of times over the last few years over my employer making job, pay and pension cuts that they themselves don't have to worry about. Without the union we'd have absolutely no protection against this. Each strike was voted for through the democratic process. Does this make me an ignorant ****?
What's the union coverage in McDonalds like? How has the pay of the average McDonalds worker changed over the years in comparison to the company's profits and the wages of the highest earners in the company? Just because McDonalds workers are ****ed over doesn't mean the rest of us should join them in a race to the bottom.
My point wasn't "McDonalds workers are ****ed so everyone should be". I was simply comparing the ridiculous demands made by some in the transport industry during the olympics to someone working in another industry that would also be working harder due to the increased volume of people. Anyone who defends threatening to go on strike because a BONUS isn't high enough. A BONUS which they where not entitled to but rather offered as a sign of gratitude by employers. Is a ****.
The majority of them don't care about the reasons, they're told theres going to be a strike for more money and they go along with it. Its only 2 or 3 union leaders that make the decision, negotiate with the government etc. They're the ones to blame..
And i guess it depends why you have been on strike as to whether your an ignorant ****. If your one of the BA staff who ****ed up loads of peoples holidays and tried to drive a large british company into the ground just because cuts where being made then yes your a ****. The BA staff had the best conditions of anyone within the industry and the cuts to staff numbers that where proposed where completely logical and neccessary. If your one of the Post Office workers who seem to strike annually now just for the hell of it - then yes, your probably a ****. If your someone who works somewhere that has genuine problems where the company are completely taking the piss out of its workforce - then yes, you may have had a reason to strike and your not an ignorant ****. The point isn't that anyone who strikes is a ****, but rather the majority of cases i have seen in the news in recent years are just money grabbing ****s trying there luck. It doesn't matter if the strikes are "democratically voted for", that doesn't in anyway justify it. That's like saying "of 20 people sharing a pot of gold, 14 vote that the 20th person should have his head cut off so the others can have his share of the gold", it wouldn't make it ok to cut the guys head off just because it was democractically decided! The majority of a group agreeign with someone does not make it the moral or best course of action. The german people democratically elected Hitler.... Also, if you have been on strike several times in recent years, is it not maybe time for you to look for another job? You clearly have problems with the way your employer operates and if you keep having to go on strike then it's obviously not working...
I'm in two minds about this. On the one-hand, having been a victim, yes a victim of the tyranny of employment legislation being weighed in favour of employees I naturally now side with the employers. However I also think that we in Britain are a little too submissive in letting the government/authorities steamroller the public. Take this week - the government to let the foreign owned power companies levey an extra £12-15 a year towards greener something or other. This followed last weeks or so's decision to have each houselhold be chanrged an extra £90 a year for another green scheme. Why do we the "Great" British public let our govts treat us like teh "Gullable" British?. But, not all company bosses and managers are fat cats. Loads of small businesses run by good people get screwed over by devious dishonest slack workers who take advantage of rules in their favour. You really cannot be a nice person and employ people in this country anymore. This strike - in the words of Stavros, "Why they always pick on Arse, eh? What they eva done to anyone?". I guess the good thing about postponements is that if it's played in Jan/Feb then Gervinho won't be available.
Normally Im all for striking but I think this particular Union are a bunch of ****tards. They act like its a moral obligation to strike but its not like they are being mistreated. The average Tube drivers salary is now £34,000 a year - with over 30 days holiday. Not bad for a completely unskilled job. Im annoyed the game was pushed back - I wanted some xmas footy.
COMPLETELY UNSKILLED? Driving a tube train is completely unskilled? I can't really even begin to explain how much I disagree with that statement. As for you being annoyed about the loss of Xmas footy - maybe the tube workers are annoyed at the unreasonable behaviour of the tube bosses/managers etc. and are resorting to industrial action as they obviously feel that they aint being listened to.
You sound like a gooner version of the daily mail mate. They are striking so they don't lose something that they used to get...that seems fair enough to me. Transport for London (who run the tubes) have got rid of more and more staff, have got their own way on many other changes which have negatively affected the staff such as pension cuts, pay freezes and changes to working patterns and the more the union compromises the more the employer keeps trying to take. As for looking for another job...where exactly are they gonna find these other jobs? The is a recession which has led to companies and public bodies such as councils NHS etc. cutting posts, imposing pay cuts, cutting services slashing pensions ... in short making normal people pay for a financial crisis that governments caused. The money grabbing ****s are the Banks, Mortgage Lenders, Politicians, Big Businesses and their apologists. These people get richer, load up their pensions, pay less taxes, and generally get richer while the living standard of the rest of us goes down the toilet. This country is far RICHER today than EVER before. The recession does not mean that the economy and wealth of the country is not growing it means it is growing more slowly...but STILL GROWING. Yet Hospitals are being shut, pensions slashed, pay frozen while house prices, and the cost of gas, electricity and food continues to rise. Some people are doing very well while the rest of us are being shafted. You seem to be on the side of those who are doing shafting whereas I think they are the money grabbing ****s
