After last night's victory, and with that great first half (mainly first 15 minutes) a lot are saying if that was our best performance in Europe. It was a great game, but don't think it was THE best. As Wenger said that Barca win has to rank up there, but we've had so many great performances in Europe. the 3-0 victory over Milan when we needed to win 4-0, we thrashed them in the first half worst than we did Napoli. In the 2008 season we had one of our finest footballing performances too when we thrashed Slavia Prague 7-0. Our 2-0 Juventus win was another great one, and even the 0-0 with Madrid was one of our finest performances, and one of the best games I've also watched, was probably the most entertaining 0-0 ever.
This one Also did we do the same to AC Milan too at the San Siro? We even got a standing ovation walking off the pitch in that one.
The Fabregas goal against Juve has to be right up there. The way Pires tackled Vieira to win the ball back was almost as good
Our best performance in Europe was when we beat Parma 1-0 to win the ECWC in 1994 followed by the 3-0 win over Anderlecht in 1970 to win the Fairs Cup.This was after losing the first leg of the final 3-1
Definitely Pires with the tackle to disposes Vieira, it was so stark as he hardly ever tackled as there he was tackling our old rock in MF. Fab with the goal and one of the youngest ever to score in a CL game
Another great win for us was the 2nd leg of the 1980 ECWC semi final when we beat Juventus 1-0.We were the first foreign team to win on Turin if I remember correctly
Will never forgot our performance in the San Siro against Milan in 2008. Fabregas was magical on that night.
It its' day the 7-0 win in Liege was seen as an awesome performance, and that came at a time when the CWC was a proper European trophy treated seriously by all who qualified, around 1993/94 ? Since then of course there have been some unbelievable CL performances, too many to list, I am surprised no-one mentioned the 4-1 win at Highbury over Bayer Leverkusen, I remember us dominating and yet another ridiculous Dennis Bergkamp goal. And of course the 1-0 win in Madrid becoming the first English side to win there. 3-1 win in Roma a few years ago was special too....
That is my greatest European moment to recall - as you said because the tackle was made by Bobby it stood out more. I also remember the fantastic feeling after Lehman's penalty saves helped beat Villareal to get to the Final against Barca. That was also giving me goosebumps until Lehman got sent off - from then on it was kind of just waiting for the inevitable. I also remember Edu came alive in European games.
