If they want so much money for Mannone why don't they rate him, play him or give him a chance. They should just let him go for whatever money they get offered otherwise they will be just stuck with him on there wage bill until his contract is up

So much money? It's £1m, and to be honest, I think a top four club need to be valuing their first team goalkeeper at a little more than that.

Mannone is their third choice keeper, they have better players than us. Schezney is worth about 10 million who is their 1st choice. Fabianski is worth about 3-4 million who is their 2nd choice keeper and mannone is worth about 1 million who is their 3st choice keeper. It all makes sense

We should offer €700k & if they meet us halfway it's a good price as I really rate him

So how much of our transfer kitty would that be? If he's £700k to £1M and we're not likely to be spending £3M total do we really want to be spending 25-35% of it on a keeper, reducing what we have available for the other players we need when there's someone like Kirkland available on a free or other good keepers available for less?

It is when the financial fair play rules are in effect.

Kirkland and a decent striker will sell more than Mannone and another McLean.

There are always deals to be done, and if we can sign Dudgeon, Stewart, Chester & Evans for a combined fee of around £1.2m then it does seem a little daft spending £1m of a limited (or even non-existent) transfer budget on a keeper when we have equally good options already lined up. A proper striker is very hard to come by cheap so I think most of us (regardless of how much we'd like to see Vito here) would prefer us to spend the money on more pressing concerns.

I don't honestly understand the argument about season pass sales.. I seriously doubt that people will hang their renewal decisions on whether or not we have Mannone.

And Doveston, you've been doing so well of late, don't start being a twat again. If it weren't for the Allams we might not even exist as a club today, they've already put over £50m into the club - and they're hardly multi-billionaires.

Based on simply player age, ability, injury-proneness etc, I think every single City fan would rather see us sign Vito than Kirkland. But there's a lot more to consider, as I've already stated above.

When fit he's far too good a keeper to be in the Championship. If the contract is set up so that if he gets injured we can afford to get another keeper then it's a good signing.

With Mannone I don't see the point in spending that money on him. As far as I know Arsenal haven't had anybody else interested in him, if they did previously then either they agreed it was too much or he didn't want to join them or he wouldn't have been sat in their reserves til January. Why pay £1M for him when we can leave him at Arsenal, and once it gets to next season if we need cover because Kirkland gets injured just loan him again.

The FFP rules run on a 3 year rolling average. Any spending we do this summer on young players will still be being accounted for in 4 years time, so will affect our FFP standing for the next 7 years.

I never realised Kirkland had missed so few games over the last 4 years. I presumed he was injured. Be interesting to see how truthful this is - any way of getting non-playing sub appearances for Wigan?

I'm not going right back to the start of the year (because I can't be arsed), but he's been on the bench for 7 of the last 10, and it's the last 3 that Pollitt has been named instead.

Sorry but Kirkland's a no for me. Of course he is fit. he's on the bench. Its when he plays he gets injured.
Mannone is a snip at a million for me. No idea about the fair play stuff though.

Oh and i do like the word "pervious"

You're right - it's not a lot of money and he's worth every penny but you could say the same about a Ferrari and I wont be buying one of them. We simply havent got any money to spend on fees this forthcomning transfer window.

I would definitely sign him, even if it required 50% of our budget. Do we really want to be tossing around with players like Kirkland, who lets be honest, has a shocking injury record.

I think we can get a competent enough squad making the outfield players up with loans and frees. Plus if we are wheeling and dealing, money may be raised from player sales.

    as fergal sharkey once said
"a good goalie these days is hard to find"

i think 1mill for Mannone maybe a budget breaker , but the valuation is about right and has a good chance of giving a profit in 3-4 years .
