Arsène Wenger has revealed the latest team news ahead of Arsenal's Premier League opener against West Ham United:
    on the team news…

We have Welbeck on a progressive recovery and Rosicky on a progressive recovery.

    on Welbeck…

He is not too far away, but he is not ready for Sunday.

    on
    Alexis
Alexis is back in training but I don’t think he will be involved on Sunday, it is a bit early maybe. We have to decide that at the end of the week, but I don’t think he will be involved.

    on
Alexis training on the beach in Chile…
Alex without running around is not Alex, you know. You can’t imagine him lying on the beach somewhere and not moving! He came back in good fitness shape so that is quite positive, but I am not surprised by that because I can’t imagine him lying around for four weeks and doing nothing. That wouldn’t be him.

We really should beat West Ham with ease. No disrespect. Their preseason form has been pretty bad and they're missing some vital players too. We're at home so no excuses.

I'd expect Theo start upfront again as I can see him tearing West Ham's defence apart. I think we will see Giroud starting away games instead (assuming no strikers will be brought in.)

Sanchez won't be back either so I expect the same team from Subday to start.

Edit: I take that back. Giroud is more likely to start this game as he didn't get many minutes on Sunday.

They've literally been scraping past sides i never even knew existed in Romania, Malta and Azerbaijan or wherever in their Europa League Qualification games. We should honestly beat them comfortably...

...but you just know it's going to be a tight game.

    Realistically, I expect a 2-0 win.

Get to know them good, cause we're gonna sign Slava Shakila from FC Strausberg Tigers, located in one of those countries.

We should have too much for West Ham in the first game at home. Tricky line up if you want to play Walcott, Oxo and Giroud in the front three. Ozil and Cazorla are looking decent so need to start.

Our good record against WHU should continue. 2-0 win IMO. We have momentum, better squad and player, better form, etc...

The funny thing is when you google the name: Slava Shakili on Yahoo, the first result you get is the Arsenal Summer Transfer Rumours.

Looks like a wilshere's 'slight' problem has now turned into a broken bone and 6weeks - 3 months out! Poor bastard, he really is turning into a new diaby isn't he? I remember him saying that he really needed to kick on and reach the next level after coming back from injuries, but since then he's has around two seasons severely interrupted by injuries.

Maybe not such a big blow for the team in the next few games but long term it's a blow

Well we need a new midfielder now, that's for sure, Wilshere is like Diaby, can't be relied upon long term.

In team news, Wilshere obviously out, Welbeck out, Wenger says he will be back soon (been saying that for 3 months). And Rosicky is out as well, back in 'recovery process' which probably means 6 months until we see him back. Sanchez obviously out as well.

Ah how lovely, new season, and already 3 players out injured before a ball is kicked. With Welbeck out, we currently only have one out and out striker in Giroud.

I reckon he might. Walcott is obviously on his radar for being a CF this season (personally I think Walcott should just get on with being a RWF) so he might start him there. I reckon we've got much better balance with Giroud up front though, Walcott right, Sanchez left.

What annoys me bout wenger and the board is we are always 2/3 players short of being a top team every year.We always suffer a few injuries and are left short. If we signed a central defender, holding mid and striker we would be a serious team.We could do with a left back as I don't really rate Monreal/Gibbs

So West Ham have completed a miserable preseason and start to billic's reign by getting knocked out of Europe to a Romanian side - which is good news to us. Though apparently they only had 2 1st teamers playing, Jenko being one of them.

can not see anything but a convincing win for you...once they concede they fall apart and for a team that qualified for Europe via the fair play league they seem to have a problem keeping their players on the pitch with 3 reds in the last 4 matches.
Can see them having a difficult season...they can't afford to go do so the pressure is on Bilic (excuse spellin) to have a decent start and the Olympic Stadium stuff will continue. They also need to have a good last season at Upton park for their fans sake.
I think you will face far harder games than them this season!

Personally I'd start Debuchy over Hector and Giroud over Theodore. West Ham have some big strong players and these two are more likely to give them a game of it. Plus, when they get tired you can bring on the speed merchants. Other than that I'd keep the same lineup as Sunday.

I wonder if his middle name is Logan? :cheesy:

I agree. Though you could argue that we won't need to do as much defending so should use Bellerin's more attacking play.

West Ham's two main attackers Valencia and Carrol (surprise surprise) are injured as well.
