Will be a chance for some of our 2nd string to get some game time and hopefully progress. We might need some of them to step up after xmas too when injuries and fatigue take hold.

I just hope we have a good game and don't incur any more injuries.

Oh and your lot to beat those black and white tits again in May <cheers>

I hope for the same <ok>. I don't think we'll go full strength, but I do think there'll be a mix of first team fringe players, youth players and maybe 2-3 first-teamers. I expect us to have a strong bench just for insurance, as you never know when things may go wrong.

From my perspective, I'd like to see us try to win this trophy. We haven't won the League Cup since 1993 and, although we won the FA Cup in 2020, it would be nice to get some variety of silverware, as the FA Cup is the only major silverware we've won since 2004!

I used to follow Wrexham as a second team. I turned a ticket down in 92 for fear of an annihilation <doh> :D

I enjoyed you's nicking the title from under Liverpool's noses ala Michael Thomas 89 :emoticon-0136-giggl it wound a few mates who were LFC fans up :D

Hope you win it if we don't cause on upset.
Don't know fook all about Brentford ? Thought they were in a league below us <laugh> what's your take on them ?

I imagine I share your thoughts in not wanting spurs or chelski <laugh> :emoticon-0148-yes:

Anyway it's my first day off for the holidays so I'm going to enjoy a few beers watching it tonight.

    Merry Christmas Gooners ;)

Likewise - I'll be rooting for you if you spectacularly pull off an upset. Don't really fancy any of the other teams left to win it. I suppose Brentford and West Ham are the lesser of the evils, but let's see.

In terms of Brentford, they've been a very exciting and attacking side to watch. They beat us on the opening day of the season (albeit we had 7 first-team players out and no new signings), but they've also given hard games to Chelsea, Liverpool, Leicester, West Ham etc, even if they haven't won. They've been in poor form of late, but they're certainly no pushovers. If they can stay up, it'll be a huge achievement considering their budget and resources.

We have 6 or 7 players injured.
So hopefully no more after tonight as my main concern is getting out of this league.
That said I'd be over the moon to progress.

If you's go 3 up I'll stop watching mind :D

Interesting team. 9 changes from the Leeds game. Glad to see Balogun starting and Patino on the bench. Lets hope we win.

Will be interesting to see how they get on. As I mentioned we might need to rely on a few of these players once injuries and fatigue take hold later in the season.

    HT. 2-1.

Definitely not a good half. Sunderland have played better than I expected, but equally, we've been much worse than I expected.

You can clearly see why the likes of Elneny, Cedric and Pepe (despite his goal) are squad players at best. They've done nothing to stake a claim for a first-team spot. Nketiah simply cannot hold or trap a ball at all. Even his goal was lucky <doh>.

Midfield is too porous and Cedric/Tavares are constantly out of position, which makes us easy to exploit through the flanks and on the counter.

Need to do much better. Can't believe we're struggling this much against a League One team. This is a joke.

Got an element of luck with both of our goals. Sunderland one was really well taken.

And yeah, most of the players out there are confirming why they aren't in the first team

It's kinda weird that our 2nd team isn't really any younger than our first team. In fact I think the average is a little older.

Interesting to see Pepe getting a goal.

Just saw the goal we conceded again. What is Elneny doing? What is that defensive line? Why is Pepe stepping out there when it completely takes him out the game?

Really, really poor goal to concede on the counter like that.

Elneny, Leno, Nketiah and Pepe will probably all be sold in the Summer. Time to put yourself in the shop window.

3-1. Nketiah. Tavares assist. Lovely finish from Eddie.

Not his biggest fan, but at least he's reliable in cup competitions against lower league opposition.

Sunderland hit the post with a strike from range <doh>. We've been so bad in defensive transition. Haven't closed down spaces and let them run at us too easily. Need to stop backing off and be more aggressive when winning the ball back.

    4-1. Nketiah hat-trick!

I have to say, that's a saucy goal. Lovely vision from Odegaard, great skill/nutmeg from Pepe and lovely back heeled finish from Eddie.

5-1. Charlie Patino scoring on his first-team debut <applause>.

Routine win overall, and a much improved second half, but the scoreline flattered us a little bit.

Fair play to Sunderland for giving it a real good go, though. Played some nice stuff at times too.

Great to see your club accessing and using talent that has grown up in the London area. Why has your club spent many years trawling the globe only to unearth the llkes of Elen,y when London is awash with rich diamonds? You could almost base the England team on players from Arsenal, Chelsea, West Ham plus Harry Kane. Well done on tonight's result and good luck on trying to win the trophy. Long overdue!!! Imagine a final against Tottenham, the dream final!!!
