If Saka is not available I would quite like to see... ------------------------Raya---------------------------- White-----Saliba--------Gabriel------Zinchenko -------Odegaard----Partey------Rice-------------- ---Jesus------------Trossard----------Martinelli--
No, Saka. Mikel said he'd be in contention to play, but he needs further assessment. I don't think Martinelli will be back for us until after this international break.
No Saka in the squad at all, Martinelli and Partey on the bench, Trossard starting on the wing, Jorginho in the middle…man, this team looks wonky.
HT. 0-0. A very cagey, tight affair when both teams seem to know a lot is on the line in this game. How Kovacic is still on the pitch is an absolute disgrace, both his challenges were worse than what Curtis Jones did last week and yet somehow City have all 11 on the field. Meanwhile, Jorginho got booked for his 1st foul . Oliver has totally bottled it and so has VAR. That is honestly shocking.
We need to make some changes here. I don't know what Arteta is waiting for. City starting to have some sustained pressure and we need some fresh legs on the pitch. For the 4th game in a row, he's not being proactive with his substitutions.
Havertz, Tomiyasu and Partey coming on. I'm fine with the latter two coming on, but the former is a big concern if he's going into midfield.
FT. 1-0. FINALLY! After 12 straight league losses to Man City, and the first time since December 2015, we finally beat Man City in a league game! It wasn't a great game to watch, scrappy at times, and some loose passing from both teams, however, I'm so glad to have got one over them. The whole back 5 were imperious, Rice and Jorginho were excellent together, Odegaard was hit and miss, but he worked so hard, Jesus was fantastic, Martinelli injected life into the game when he came on. Great subs from Arteta too (even if I think they should have happened earlier). Tomiyasu was superb, Partey gave us stability and control, and Havertz was a great outlet - holding the ball up, winning throw ins, occupying defenders and a tidy lay-off for Martinelli's (deflected) goal. What a way to go into the International break
From BBC Sport: Manchester City had four shots in this match – it’s the fewest shots a Pep Guardiola side has had in a top-flight game since April 2010 with Barcelona against Espanyol (also four).
Fewest shots city have had since 2010. Haaland 23 touches for the entire match and lost 60% of his aerial duels. Bosh.
****ing Get in. Huge result - cagey game but just about edged it. Having Martinelli back is a huge boost.
