They’ve no problem after that coming out of the game. They are back available in training, a bit short still of top competitive level certainly but that’s normal. They’ve been out for a long time but I was quite surprised by how fit they looked and the quality of their performance - it was good. on recalling them for Saturday... Jack or Diaby or Debuchy, will I involve any of them? I don't know, I haven't decided. on how vital their experience will be… You want everybody available and back in the final months to compete at the top level. The consistency will play a big part in the success of the team and having everybody available can help. on Oxlade-Chamberlain and Welbeck… Oxlade-Chamberlain is still out and not available and Danny Welbeck came back from England with a slight knee injury. It looks like he has a little chance to be available for Saturday still. Starting XIs + Benches: please log in to view this image
We beat Liverpool and I think we can be confident and say that we will have 4th place in the bag minimum, and then it will be a fight for 2nd. We will go 9 points ahead of Liverpool if we win, and don't see them closing that gap.
****ing massive game this. Not only would it give us a huge confidence boost but it would be a massive kick in their, and Stevie G's nuts! I know he can't play in the game but when you envision leaving your club after such a long time you want to do it in style, not a whimper. If Skrtel is suspended it should have quite a big impact on a defence which was startign to look pretty solid too. So, you know, that'd be a shame too. I think we'll edge this but frankly no result would surprise me unduly... unless it's a comfortable home win .
We're on the up at the moment and Pool will be on a downer after getting roasted by the manure. We need to go into this game with full confidence and give Pool some serious beatdown. Flog the lame, and Pool is just that.
We have struggled this season against teams that press us high up like Liverpool do, because our CB's and CM's have struggled without time on the ball, so that's a worry. Also would not play Mert for this one, Liverpool have some seriously quick players, Gabriel seems like a better option with his pace and ability to play in a higher line with Kos.
If they play anything like they do against Manchester United, we will beat them. I don't expect them to be as poor, but like United did, we need to work hard in passing effectively and keeping the ball well in midfield, restricting their width (which is where most of their attacking threats are) and staying compact. Much easier said than done, but we're capable of doing it.
United kept the ball really well despite Liverpool's pressing, Carrick and Herrera were excellent, Ramsey can be very erratic with his passing, while Cazorla and Ozil are normally excellent with their passing, but United had the option of bypassing Liverpool's pressing by playing it long to Fellaini, now we have Giorud, but Fellaini is ****ing excellent in the air. So basically we need Giroud more than ever and he has to be on his game and bully their CB's in the air ala Fellaini if we are struggling with their pressing game, so Giroud is the key player for us, let's just ****ing pray that nothing happens to him in this tedious international break.
Good. ****er always seems to score against us. So Gerrard and Skrtel are out and Mingolet, Coutinho, Sturridge and Lallana are all injury concerns.
A win here all but seals Top 4 IMO and takes that little bit of pressure off and allows us to focus in-front of us as opposed to constantly looking behind.
Coutinho being out would be massive. Seems to be at the core of all the good stuff they create. Would be a real shame if he were out too...
