Neto Kiwior Calafiori Heaven Timber or White (whoever is least injured) Jorginho Myles-Skelly Trossard Nwaneri Sterling Jesus
Wait, just seen Setford's injured as well . Nygaard has just returned from a thumb injury so he's not fully fit, either. Unless we risk it with Raya, it'll have to be Rojas or Porter (who just turned 16)...
Extremely surprised Saka is starting, but fair enough I guess. Pretty strong side mixed with youth, fringe, and first team players. Interesting to see how Porter does. He only turned 16 just over 2 months ago . The youngest ever player to start for the club. What a momentous occasion for the kid still, though. Hope he kills it out there.
Nwaneri is absolutely elite for 17. This could be a Fabregas level talent honestly. Sterling has been good on the left. Enjoyable game soo far.
FT. 5-1. Very impressive display from the youngsters. Porter couldn't do much about the goal we conceded (why did we leave Jorginho as the last man back?), but he didn't look too nervous at all. There was that one incident where his attempted clipped ball to Calafiori hit a Bolton player and went out for a goal kick, where he was lucky. But aside from that hiccup, he didn't seem overawed by the occasion. Happy that he claimed the ball from that corner to end the game out. Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly...honestly, these two look absolutely sensational talents. I see why they're both so highly regarded at the club. Superb displays from both of them. Nwaneri will hit the headlines for his brace, but Lewis-Skelly is equally as great. Incredible strength and poise on the ball, can play a defence-splitting pass, great spatial awareness and inverted superbly. Has a great range of passing on him too. Nichols started off a bit slow, was misplacing quite a few passes, but he grew into the game and I thought built quite a good relationship with Saka on that RHS. Happy for Sterling to get off the mark and for him to get an assist, too. He played well, but I'd have expected that from him, given the quality of opposition. Was disappointed in Jesus, though. His overall play was fine, and he did some nice tricks and skills past the Bolton players, but he had a few decent chances that he should have done better with IMO. I know he had injury problems last season and a few niggling ones this season too, but his last goal was end of January - against Nottingham Forest. He really needs to start finding the back of the net. Saka had a great game, but felt like he mainly wanted to use his platform to make the youngsters look better. At least he did that. Great to see Kacurri and Kabia get their debuts as well. Kacurri is ridiculously strong for an 18 year old. Overall, a good night. Let's hope we don't face too difficult a task in the next round...I would like us to win this competition. I wasn't even born the last time we did.
We've been drawn to Preston away in the 4th round. Given the draws we could have had, I'll take that.
