As I couldn't see a match thread I searched for an old one as I don't have the time or inclination to do one of my own (I saw the abuse YV got for trying to do one ) Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal Match History 1887-2013 Arsenal host Totenham at the Emirates in the 6th round of 2014-15 Premier League matches on Saturday 27th Septmeber 2014 (KO 17:30). By this time, Arsenal were re-named Woolwich Arsenal and the clubs met in the United League with the Gunners winning 2-1 at the Manor Ground in Plumstead while Spurs won the return match 3-2 at Northumberland Park. Two matches were played within the same week in April 1900 in the Southern District Combination League with Spurs winning 4-2 at White Hart Lane which was followed by a 2-1 win to Arsenal at Plumstead in a game abandoned after 75 minutes due to "bad language". History doesn't provide the answer as to who was the guilty party! From 1901 to 1920, the clubs met in various minor competitions, friendlies and matches played during the First World War. Tottenham Hotspur joined the Football League in season 1908-09 and won promotion to the First Division on their first attempt. The normal way of doing this had always been to add the top two clubs from the Second Division to those who were already in the First Division. However, there were complications arising from allegations of match-fixing from Liverpool and Manchester United during the final matches of the last season played before the League was suspended and it was felt that they would forfit their Top Flight status as a result. From nowhere, Arsenal, who had finished sixth (later corrected to fifth) in the Second Division before the war were 'elected' to take Tottenham Hotspur's place in the First Division. Allegations of bribery persist to this day and Henry Norris (Arsenal's Chairman) was later given a lifetime ban from football from the Football League for underhand financial activities. I'm going over there tomorrow, I'm honestly expecting a hammering. Poch needs to play defenders with pace otherwise we're going to get ripped apart. I'd like to see a back 4 of Naughton, Dier, Vertonghen, Rose purely for their pace But I think we'll see Dier, Kaboul, Chrichies and Rose. A disaster waiting to happen.
Kaboul was our fastest player once upon a time, when we had both Lennon and Bale in the team. Not sure he's still got it though. Plus i think it was over 100m whereas acceleration is more important 90% of the time.

They are so far a head of us in quality as we have gone backwards that it is hard to only think of damage limitation . Any team we put out has next to nothing chance being honest. I will still pray for a miracle but I hope this is not the fabled "Next level" we all will have to endure for many a year.

The referee for tomorrow is 12-year-old Northerner, Michael Oliver. Obviously chosen for his vast experience, having taken charge of about half a dozen games, most of which we've lost.

He's a ****, sent Kaboul off when he gave that penalty to Hazard despite him diving. He gives quite a lot of penalties actually, hopefully we don't give him an excuse to give one against us tomorrow.
He gave a penalty for Goofy`s dive in our 3-2 defeat at Klanfield season before last also, and failed to send Slippy G off (or even book) for deliberately elbowing Bale from behind in the same game.
Pochettino needs to pick a side that'll play the game the way that he wants them to and it also needs some pace to get in behind the Arsenal defence. I'm not sure how he's going to manage both, to be honest. I can see Vertonghen returning to the starting lineup for the nervous Chiriches, but I think our back line will still be pretty vulnerable. Lennon coming into the side on the right would help, but it won't happen, so we've got to hope for a big performance from some of our off-form players. Eriksen's set-pieces might cause them some trouble, if we can win a few free-kicks in dangerous areas, but our possession game and pressing will have to improve dramatically.
Notice how close it was in the old div1 when we had top managers. Their dominance coincided with Liverpool's domination of Everton and Utd's success over City's relegation and obscurity. Before then all the derbies had records of being close to each other. Same as England's domination of Scotland in Rugby and Australia's over English cricket.
