Having wandered over to the arsenal board recently I saw an article comparing our first team players. Many Arsenal fans believed that they would only have VDV and perhaps Assou-Ekotto in their starting line-up. So it got me interested. Who would you put in a combined North London team? Mine personally would be: ---------------Schezney----------------- --Sagna----Gallas---Vermaelen---Ekotto-- --Lennon----Modric---Song-------Bale--- ------------------VDV------------------ ----------------Van Persie-------------- Not sure if i've left Bias cloud my judgement but i make that 6-5 to us
It kinda highlights where our strengths and weaknesses are doesn't it? Are you sure you'd have Song over Sandro? Van-Persie over Adebayor? Remember Van-Persie is a sick note. If we are including injury prone players, King has to be in the line up too. Hmm
I am completely unbiased of course, and two years ago did something similar and got nine Arsenal players in, but now I would go Gomes Sagna Vermaelen King Assou-Ekottu Sandro Modric Wilshere Van der Vaart Van Persie Bale So 7-4 Closest positions are the Goalkeepers, Sandro v Song and soon I think Walker will be challenging Sagna.
I gave song benefit of doubt to try and show lack of bias. Not syaing i'd have him over Sandro though of course. Van Persie is a better striker than Adebayor, but i guess if we're going on everyone at full fitness replace Gallas with King.
Gomes Corluka King Gallas BAE Lennon Modric Sandro Bale VDV Adebayor I wouldn't have a single Arsenal player in my team (Billy & Ade are now yids in my book!) COYS
As a neutral in a traditional flat 4-4-2. My North London XI would be: GK: Szczesney RB: Sagna CB: King CB: Vermaelen LB: Assou-Ekotto RM: Walcott CM: Modric CM: Sandro LM: Bale ST: Gervinho ST: RVP 6 Arsenal players, 5 Spurs
Fair enough district, as a neutral you are probably in a better position to judge and i wouldn't argue with any other than perhaps Gervinho/VDV debate.
I'd go with: Friedel; Sagna, King, Vermaelen, Assou-Ekotto; Lennon, Sandro, Modric, Bale; van der Vaart; van Persie. Szczesney, Gallas, Song, Wilshere, Kranjcar, Arshavin and Adebayor on the bench. I fully expect Arsenal to strengthen though and Wilshere, Ramsey and Szczesney have immense potential.
Friedel Sagna Dawson Vermaelen BAE Lennon Sandro Modric Bale VDV Van Persie With the departures of Fabregas and Nasri, the only Arsenal midfielder I considered including was Wilshire, which says something about their midfield, or more accurately something about Song, Walcott and Arshavin.
----------Szczesney---------- Sagna - Vermaelen - King - BAE Lennon - Modric - Wilshere - Bale ------------VDV--------------- ---------van Persie------------
I think the reason we differ between clubs is simply that it's not a case of who's better but if an opposition is only slightly better, loyalty and the fact you know they play well for the club comes into it. Main examples being: Lennon - Walcott Sandro - Song Modric - Wilshere The reason i said Lennon over Walcott is because I actually rate Walcott fairly highly but not on the wing. If he was given the opportunity up top alongside Van Persie, for me he'd flourish.
I don't buy the Sandro/Song or Modric/Wilshere arguments, to be honest. If the Arsenal pair were any good, then they'd be at Citeh.
