Good luck to the lad, let's hope that like Jenkinson he can break through into the first team <ok>

At least this means we have some more depth at the back - even if it is a youth player!

Playing anybody doesn't mean 'depth', at one point we had Squilachi, but that didn't count for much having in our 'depth'.

You see, it's posts like yours that just piss me off, you really don't get it do you, or you do get it but you just want to put a spin on everything?

Now I'm not saying this guy is a ****, he can turn out to be the next Maldini, but he hasn't even kicked a ball at first team level, and you're already calling him depth at the back. Depth means having quality back up, not just picking up every Tom Dick and Harry and then saying DEPTH DEPTH.

To be fair, when we signed Squilachi he was a France international and playing in the CL, so he was considered to add depth. Nobody could have known he'd turn out to be such a Turkey for us.

Squillaci was signed to be first choice. Most way-off transfer of the Wenger era?

Not really. As mentioned he was a France international and playing CL for Seville, so on paper he looked like a decent signing. It's easy in hindsight to say he was a crap signing, but at the time he looked anything but.

In hindsight yes, but as Piskie says on paper he would have been good.

with hindsight we all are geniuses, its how clever we are with foresight that counts !

i think AW has good foresight (he saw something in a moderate winger and changed him into our greatest ever goalscorer) but he will occasionally get it wrong like Squillaci.
AW normally is astute when he buys youngsters, based on a very good scouting system. but they are for the future, what we now need to see is how he spends transfer kitty in January as we do need 1 more marque signing like Suerez, and more quality players to add the depth needed in the squad.

That's the point. Way off because he was expected to be good but turned out naf. Is he the biggest mistake Wenger has made?

I actually liked him at first, he was quite solid, in fact him and Kosh featured away at Old Trafford and we just lost 1-0 and looked quite solid at the back, don't know how it went downhill....Though did see an interesting stat in the matchday program, he came in at number 10 in terms of having the highest win rate when playing at the Emirates, :-D.

Sorry, but this is rewriting history. Squillaci was 6th choice at the time he was signed.
