This is the thread to share your experiences growing up with the wonderful club that is Arsenal FC. Memories of old Highbury.....your first game....best moment.....favourite pub....good old away days....pictures and videos of great goals and great moments. Whatever is it that you love about our club, post it here. To kick it off, I'll tell you a bit about my experiences. I grew up in South London in the 70's and 80's in Plumstead. My Gran's best friend lived in one of the houses which had part of the old terraces from the original Manor ground in the back Garden. Fascinated by this piece of history in front of me, from that moment I was hooked on everything Arsenal. I went to my first game in 1980 FA cup final, where Trevor Brooking scored hand us a 1-0 defeat. I'll never forget the sea of yellow and the songs that both sets of fans sang. I think you could say from that moment, I had the blood of a football fan running through my veins. Over the next two decades, I stood on the old North Bank terrace at Highbury. Initially as a Junior Gunner - then as a fully fledged Gooner. I used to stand topside, just inside from the fence that used to divide the terrace, on the right hand side looking at the pitch. I made many friends on that small patch of concrete steps, sang until my voice was hoarse and experienced the highs and lows of following Arsenal. I stood on that terrace until the sad day they pulled it down, and with it went a little piece of my heart. A few years later, I used to stand in the disabled enclosure with a group of lads who I used to support through my work (not bad eh getting paid to watch the Arsenal) Whilst it wasn't quite the same as the old North Bank, we were right up against the pitch, and used to have some good banter with Lee Dixon and Nigel Winterburn. After the games, many of the players would come and meet the lads and sign programmes for them. I always felt that Arsenal was a club that had a heart and felt like a big family, nobody ever saw themselves as superior or above the ordinary fan. I moved away from London a long time ago, so I now no longer get to watch my beloved Arsenal in the flesh, although my heart is and always will be with my beautiful Arsenal. please log in to view this image
I saw my first game in 1967,we played Streford at the Devil Bowl and lost 1-0.All i remember of the game was Ian Ure and Denis Law got sent off for fighting
good article , I think the first match i went to was someone's testimonial against Barcelona when i was little. I was clockend then. Since realising about family incloser back then i went to alot more games. My best Arsenal memory was the Double win, Worst was seeing Viduka score the winner for leeds at highbury, horrible day that was or champions league final.
I seriously can't remember my first game! Going to have to look through my tickets! (Remember those?!) Always a North Bank boy. One of my favourite memories is when we were playing Roma and they got a draw and celebrated like i was a cup final win because they got through to the next round. It was a contagious atmosphere! I was in the clock end for that so right next to them.
Does anyone remember the old Chinese Chippy on the corner of Avenell Rd and Gillespie Rd? Burger and Chips ã1 - the queue used to snake off round the corner some days.
I've never eaten around Highbury or The Emirates! Gunners - Game - El commadante (Now. Used to be Gunners - Game - Gunners)
No but I remember going in the 80's when Chelsea won 3-0 (thanks to the mercurial colander Bob Wilson) We stopped at a mobile burger bar. I asked for two burgers and a hotdog and the dirty bastards wife got them out of the freezer and slapped them under her armpits I said WTF and he replied "You want to wait all day can't you see their frozen" I said well you can ****ing cancel the hotdog then
