Arsenal are rumoured to be lining up Aston Villa winger Stewart Downing as a surprise replacement for Samir Nasri. The Gunners are ready to bid £20million for the ex-Middlesbrough man as they face up to the prospect of starting next season without Nasri. Liverpool have been repeatedly linked with Downing this summer, but the move has not yet been completed. Downing, aged 26, is arguably not the big-name replacement that Gooners would want, but manager Arsene Wenger wants a solid Premier League performer for his team. The England international is keen to leave Aston Villa in search of silverware next season.
