Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is lining up a surprise move for Newcastle bad boy Joey Barton.

The Gunners manager is willing to admit that his team of creative talent need some bit and aggression in the middle of the park, and is prepared to bid for Barton.

Wenger is said to have been discussing the move for the ex-Manchester City midfielder with senior members of his backroom team.

Barton's career was in jeopardy when he was jailed for assault in 2008. But he has rebuilt his career at St James' Park after reportedly kicking the drinking habit to which he attributed his off-the-field problems.

Capped once for England, Barton has one year remaining on his £65,000-a-week deal with Newcastle. But both parties have accepted that he will not be extending his stay, meaning Wenger could pick him up for as little as £1.5million this summer.

Barton said: “I don’t want to leave Newcastle, my family’s settled in the area, I’ve got a great working relationship with everybody at the club.

“But if someone came in and, hypothetically, offered me Champions League football, whether I’d signed a five, six or seven-year deal at Newcastle, I’d have to consider it.”

    Hahaha good joke

Barton is exactly the type of footballwise uncultured over inflated player Arsene despises
Imagine Cesc and Nasri playing with him?

He'd get battered in training all the time as no one would respect his ability or attitude

This story is BS. Where are the quotes from Wenger saying that he is going to bid for Barton? There aren't any, because it is utter horse ****. <doh>

    G'day Gooners, Stokie in peace.

We get called a lot of things, a bunch of thugs just one of them!!!

Now Barton is a 100% thug, and has done time to prove it. I posted on our Board that I am sick to death of these transfer windows and the mindless speculation that goes with it.

All the best for next season, except for the obvious <cheers>
