Van Persie warning: Arsenal have left it too late to re-sign Robin - Vieira http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/robin-van-persie-refuses-to-sign-837983 Vieira risked his old mentor Wengerâs wrath by claiming: âI think losing Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas last year was a big shock for Arsenal - and if they lose Robin this year, it will be a trauma. âWhen Samir and Cesc left, you could say, âOK, but we still have Van Persie and Jack Wilshere at the club.â âBut if Robin leaves, that means next year it may be Theo Walcott, next year itâs Wilshere, and itâs going to be difficult for Arsenal to keep their top players.â Vieira added: âIâm quite surprised they have waited until he has only a year left on his contract to talk to him. Itâs difficult to find players of Robinâs quality anywhere in the world with only a year left - especially strikers who can score 34 goals in a season. Itâs difficult to understand. âRobin wants to win trophies - and Arsenal have to prove he can do it with them. âWe know that Robin loves Arsenal. That is not the question - the real question is how Arsene Wenger will convince Robin they can win trophies.â âI donât think you have many talents like Robin who have just one year left on their contracts - I think there will be a lot of teams who want a signing like him.â Manchester United are also keen but City lead the chase and are desperate to get the deal done. They have made Van Persie their number one target ahead of AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Athletic Bilbao target-man Fernando Llorente. Vieira pretty much saying what the rest of us are expressing. The big question is can Wenger persuade RVP that we are ambitious enough to win trophies again? Also have Man City really made him their number one target? If so, with Vieira's help, they can present a package too irresistible to turn down....
we are finally reaping what we failed to sow - the last several seasons. Best players move on - money, trophies, disillusion with Wenger and lack of ambition of the club. Uphill struggle from now on to address the problems.
Mr Viera is just stating the bleeding obvious! Of course we have left it too late, of course players like are difficult to come by.... blah blah. However with/without him we were never going to win the championship, and we WILL still make CL qualification!
I'm not sure about the 'left it too late' argument. We would have signed him up earlier if we could, Robin wanted to wait until the end of the season - not much we could have done about that. The real problem is far more long term and deeply ingrained; the lack of ambition and the faith in mediocrity. It is these unaddressed problems that have caused the rot and motivated our best players to move to pastures new. Wenger: show some ambition!!!!
I'm not looking to wind anyone up but I'm not sure how you can be so certain. By taking Van Persie out the team and replacing him with a decent but not as spectacular player in Podolski I'm not so sure that's a top 4 team. Spurs will more likely than not be weaker but Chelsea will be far stronger and Liverpool and Newcastle will be no mugs.
Agreed, i don't think it was a case of being too late either. I think RVP has been seeing the slide in Arsenal for quite some time. Just for the past few years, we have lost a succession of our best players every year - Flamini, Diara, Hleb, Toure, Clichy, Nasri and Fabregas. You think that RVP has been blind to all this? It's one thing getting rid of the players you don't play or want like Bendy, Chamakah, Vela, Denilson. But we're talking about our best playing 11 players. Then you look at the players Wenger's brought in - Chamakh, Park, Jenkinson, Arteta and Benny. Although i like the last 2, none of them have been stellar, nor adequate replacements. They are players meant to keep things ticking along. These players aren't in the same league as RVP, they can't even carry his jockstrap!
Yup! DeJa-****ing Vu. If we loose RVP its just more of the same. If we had managed to sign up RVP and add a couple more who knows what we could have done? it's always like this these days. I have no idea what has happened to the fight and ambition Arsenal used to have. I was quite excited about the prospect of having Van Persie and Podolski playing for us. That's ALOT of firepower! Shame.
I think Vieira is just trying to goad Arsenal into paying out 200K /week for RVP so that Arsenal cannot sign any other players or keep any of the existing players. If we do pay RVP that, we will be unable to keep Song or Walcott or replace them with anybody other than from our youth side. Man City don't even want RVP, they are just trying to get us to spend as much as possible so that we screw ourselves financially. He is just being an asshole.
Are you serious? The man is an Arsenal legend and would never screw over the club he loves. He just states the obvious and what everyone else is saying.
he is just saying it how it is. Abuse always follows the stated truth. Grow up. He has an opinion same as you do. I have come to note yours isn't worth following.
I swear TT is either a WUM or has ill formed opinions. To say that Vieira is trying to force Arsenal to pay more and screw us financially is comical. By reading Vieira's comments can you tell that he's not happy with the way things are going at Arsenal, but he can't show too much interest as he's on Man City's books. He is just a list of Arsenal legends that have said the same things.
- and you know what? 3 years after Wenger has gone and we have a major fresh Manager, we will have won something at last. These fans who lick up Wenger's ass will be saying how bad the last years were and he should have retired years before.....
I just don't understand how they've become so brainwashed. For a top club to not win anything for a straight 7 years is very poor. How can they ignore this fact? All i hear is finances and living within our means all the time, are we a business or a football club i wonder. The brainwashed will always parrott the message, even after 7 years, wow....
RVP leaving I can accept. RVP leaving for Man. City or any other EPL club will make me lose all the respect I have for the guy. Sorry, 1.5 great seasons in 8 doesn't make that acceptable, and it certainly doesn't make him a 'legend' that should be forgiven on everything in my book.
Mate everyone else is as confused as you about what Omogooner wrote. 2 dimwits - Omogooner and Toledo Trumpton who I am sure have been "inserted" onto our board to make the stupidest and most outlandish comments ever ...
Sorry but he is being an ass. How the **** are we going to pay RVP what he would earn at Manchester City? How the **** are we going to sign a player that would signify our intent if that player is going to want 130K and cost 35M. How the **** are we going to do all this and renew/replace Walcott and up everybody else so they don't egg RVPs car when he drives in to work? You guys need to realize that Man City and the other top clubs are not paying slightly more than us, they are on average paying 4x more than us. This is not something you can ignore. We can signify our intent for one season and then cease trading, and you can all go and support Spurs. Is that what you want?
You fail at maths, because RVP is reportedly demanding 250K/week. That alone breaks the bank, forget about renewing/replacing Walcott or buying any other players.
