According to today's Telegraph, Arsenal are preparing an £8 Million bid for Town Left back Tyrone Mings in January. As this is coming from one of the quality Newspapers I think that the momentum is now building for him to leave in the January window! Personally I would be gutted to see him go as he has still so much potential for us to benefit from but on the other hand £8 Million is a hell of a lot of money and could go along way in helping us to achieve promotion this season. The other point to consider is that no Left Back will win the league for us in the same way as an attacking midfielder or quality striker can! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...8-million-for-Ipswich-Towns-Tyrone-Mings.html If Mick chooses to cash in on Ty, who in your opinion do we replace him with and who in addition would you like us to bring in? I know we have done threads on this already but I see this as the strongest indication yet that Mings will be sold in January!
I've been told by someone, I won't say who he will 100% be joining Arsenal in January. No idea as to who to target should this happen, I didn't know a lot about Parr however he's been an astute bit of business! I trust Mick to make a good replacement signing should this happen. Our young lad Clarke is supposed to be a good prospect also ?
Parr and Chambers will be our Full backs, Its back up we'd look short on. Smith could probably fill in at LB if we're desperate but I imagine/hope we'd look to the youth Squad or give Hewitt another opportunity. I assume the money would be absorbed into the club accounts to pay other expenses but hopefully it would free up some money to look at getting in another goalscorer
St Ledger signing on a free helps to some degree, he could be a very shrewd acquisition I would say. Based on what I saw of Bristol City at Peterborough on sky, their right back looked different level and he would certainly be a cracking signing! Another goalscorer!? Not sure how that would fit in. Seems we have Murphy the goalmachine, McGoldrick chipping in with assists + goals and the other lad to put in one hell of a shift and create space. I think Noel Hunt could make that role his own, he looks far better than Sammon who I must has has been a massive disappointment.
I honestly believe he'll be off in January for quite a sizeable bid. We'll see though....... so long as he performs as long as he's at the club, and doesn't let off the field affect him on the pitch then whatever will be will be!
http://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/26316/wenger-confirms-mings-interest Appears to be gathering pace......
I think he would rather play games than sit on the bench at the moment....he has plenty of time to cash in, although he is turning down more money in the long run getting games and developing with us could increase his earning potential more than sitting on the arsenal bench or even just playing in their reserves.
Remember in football, you are one injury away from the end of your career. One move. He's going to be on around £12000 p/week with us, for some reason or other premier league teams offer ridiculous wages so no doubt he'll be on £40,000 a week on a four year deal. It's a no brainer, you back yourself as a player and when the chance comes for such a massive club, surely you go!? It's not as if Arsenal have many defenders either. He'd have a decent chance of playing some minutes I'd imagine this season. Football is a job at the end of the day, I work for the NHS. If BUPA came in and offered me treble my wages, I'd be off in a shot! Well Wenger has confirmed his interest, he's admitted it. Shows its more than paper talk. Not too amused with Wenger saying this either, rather he kept his mouth shut.
"We are following a few young players but we are not close to signing anybody,” Wenger said. Hardly 'gathering pace', nothing that we all didn't know weeks ago.
Well Wenger has confirmed his interest? From what I've been told he's 100% off so we shall see. Likewise Warkie, Wenger should shut up and concentrate on his 4th placed trophey.....
More from Mick today on the subject: http://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/26322/mccarthy-glad-arsenal-are-watching-mings
westie, I would say he is nowhere near on 12k with us, I would be surprised if it was more than half that! I think 8 million would be good business, I quite like the rotherham LB Skarz, has very good delivery with crosses and is solid defensively.
Would be a mistake for him in January with Gibbs and Monreal there. He'd do a lot better to stay with us or join a Premier League club where he's going to be knocking on the door of the first team, like Cresswell did. From our perspective, Chambers, Murphy and McGoldrick are the only players we can't do without.
I would say he'll be at towards the top of our wage earners. We turned down prem money and he signed a new 3 year deal after, he's not going to be on 3/4/5/6k and sign such a long deal!
I'd sell him for anywhere around that 8M mark. Parr will fit seamlessly in and I think he'll be better on the left where he can deliver the ball first time with his left foot. Going to Arsenal with only Gibbs and Monreal (sorry Hampy, I don't rate either) to compete against it won't be that long before he's getting game time. I have no idea where the money will end up but if we could bring in Jonny Williams that would be a good bit of business. 10K turned into 8M and then a quality midfielder brought in and maybe some cash in the bank, or for agents fee/wages etc for Bosman's.
I would be very sorry to see him go as I think he's the most exciting prospect we've had for several years. It would be nice to think at least some of the fee could be used to consolidate a push for promotion(similar to when we sold Keiran Dyer).
