Jonathan Walters capitalised on mistakes from Karl Henry and Eduardo Vargas to give Stoke a two-goal lead at the Britannia Stadium, but Niko Kranjcar gave QPR hope before the break. Redknapp watched on as his side posed more of an attacking threat in the second half and they could have been level on a number of occasions with better finishing. However, the visitors were caught late on as Walters completed his hat-trick and have now lost each of their opening 11 away games in the league this term - the first top-flight team to do so since 1953-54. "If you don't see the game and look at the score line you think 3-1 [looks easy]," he said. "But if you were here, you look at that second half and see we were camped in their half second half, we just couldn't get the goal. "It looks like we were well beaten, but that wasn't the case. "We make individual errors, and it costs you, for 22 minutes I was thinking they [Stoke] were having a bad day, but suddenly we lose possession in a bad area and we're 1-0 down. "At 2-1, I thought we could win the game. I felt we battered away but couldn't get the goal - if we'd have got one, we would've gone on to win. I couldn't have asked for more effort than what they gave. "I am encouraged by it. We didn't come out and drop our heads, we came out on front foot and had a real go at it." The defeat leaves QPR in the bottom three, and Redknapp says his current squad will have to get them out of trouble as bringing in new faces is unlikely before Monday's transfer deadline. He added: "It's hard, I couldn't say if we'll get anyone in before the deadline, everyone is trying, but it's not easy in January to find players, especially this late."
I would go along with that RTID exactly We gave them 3 goals....but we played much better in the second half going forward, And on a different day we would/should have got a point Not the worst away performance of the year... (and there have been some awful ones) I know we want a striker, but has anyone other than us here on the board noticed we need some defense? We have no viable backs, Dunne will give his heart, but struggles if the other 3 defensive players are not giving what he is....has Caulker (like Mutch) also upset Arry. Yun can cut it, Ned is good back up....but Hill (sorry love the guy...but....)
Some people are saying that we played much better in the 2nd half. Having seen the highlights I must agree. However, look at the side that finished the game compared to the one that started it. Redknapp continues to set us up to not lose and then he tries to rectify the situation once we are behind.............EVERY ****ING AWAY GAME!! Surely even someone like him with very limited tactical nous can see by now that maybe, just maybe we should START away games on the front foot with a more attacking set up? It can't get any worse can it? I despair I really do!
It's all very well Harry saying we could have won, it's just not good enough. Every away game it's the same scenario that we give away silly goals and then have to chase the game. So many players underperforming and some of the substitutions make you wonder why they weren't tried from the start. Our 'defence' is just beyond a joke and without new faces will cost us...
Agree. If we are consistently being unlucky in games we could have won, eventually you have to consider it is not bad luck, but bad formation/selection/man management/ training...take your pick. We can't just sit and wait for our luck to change, life doesn't work like that.
I agree re the defence. I think that between Ned,Dunne and Caulker we have 2 adequate CB's . I do not think Ned is a FB in a million years. Isla can play there but does not look happy. Only saw MOTD highlights of yesterday's match so cannot comment on his overall performance, but Yun defending of Walters for last goal was not good enough.
Simpson hasnot cut it at Leicester, the decision to sell was not the problem, the decision not to get in a replacement, was the problem...but hey we didn't need one...we were gonna play 3 at the back... (NOW THERE IS THE REAL PROBLEM) that was the start and that bad decision, caused a domino effect when there was no 3 at the back ...then we discovered we had no cover at traditional full back positions...
Simpson is getting games at Leicester and he would have been a good squad player to have regardless, to sell him to one of our rivals is even odder but then the whole 3-5-2 idea has proven to be a disaster that has shaped our season, Rio was the icing on the cake...
We deserved a draw all right. But of course our defense has been letting us down all season, a glance at our record worst in the League confirms that. Mainly, we need a good fast aware CB to play alongside Dunne, to improve the defense at it's heart where it is not PL level.
Hasn't Rob Green made more saves this year than any other EPL keeper? Things could have been even worse defensively. We don't seem to be as quick blocking / closing down as other defences.
Erm.............no. Redknapp is the manager and he makes the decisions. I don't imagine he and his fellow dinosaurs ever take much notice of Hoddle.
