Violence and boozed-up thuggery make up the bulk of 2,456 match-day arrests last season and there were 589 new banning orders.

Football hooliganism is back on the rise, with 2,456 matchday arrests last season, it emerged yesterday.

Arrests for violence more than doubled from 273 to 554, while 42 thugs were collared for racist chanting – up from 23 the previous season, figures revealed.

And a league of shame also showed the teams with the most fans banned from games by court order.

Cardiff City, Chelsea, Manchester United, Leeds United and Millwall topped the list of Britain’s roughest clubs.

Last season, 25 Hull City fans were arrested, mainly for public disorder and alcohol-related offences. There were also four arrests for use or possession of a firework or flare and three arrests for violence. Nine new banning orders were issued, taking the total to 47.

Nuneaton had more than Millwall?!? That shouldve been the headline story. They shouldve also done arrests as a percentage of fans attending home games. I know these arrests will be home and away but it'll still give an idea as worst per head.

There was an article I was reading when it was all released, that was saying how Non-League Clubs were actually getting worse for it then those in the Football League. Grimsby had more arrests and banning orders than us I believe.

    Sensationalist journalism really,

Firstly it means nothing without further data, to show something is on the rise you need to show trends, i.e. a 10 year period, not comparing one year to the next, for all we know this year could have been an anomaly and arrests are actually in decline over the past decade.

Secondly by using numbers and not placing them in context it makes things seem worse than they are, present these facts as percentages of people attending games and the figures would show an increase of 0.25 to 0.50 (assuming half a million, people attend games, I'm sure there's more but I can't be bothered to work it out).

Pointless article written to fulfill a point not to present the facts.

The fact that we made up less than 2% of this seasons banning orders and less than 2% of the total banning orders that are currently in place, reflects well on us.

Particularly as some of the banning orders we currently have in place shouldn't have been banning orders in the first place.

You also need to consider that arrests are not an accurate measure of disorder at games, its simply a measure of who got arrested.

For example the increase in racism arrests is due to the high media attention individual cases have received recently, we all know racism was far more prevalent on the terraces in the 70's its just people weren't arrested for it so it doesn't show up as statistics like these.

You can't say that about the Goole lot as they don't use this forum and therefore cannot defend themselves against such spurious allegations.

It's one of the rules, apparently.

Close the thread now or please move the above post into a thread of its own.

Consistency, that's the name of the game.

    Unprovoked anti-Goole snobbery.

No one knows anything more detailed about these stats.

No doubt this thread will now turn into yet another argument about what constitutes real fans based nothing but the PRESUMPTION that people from Goole got arrested, and others feel superior cos they sit in silence in the West stand.

    Bag of ****e.

Apologies, was just a simple question about the location our hooligans come from. I wasn't implying that everyone from Goole is a hooligan. I have a mate who lives there. Egg chaser he is, 22 stone and not a hooligan.

    Happy to clear that up.

Soz mate, didn't realise you were from Goole. See previous post for explanation. I'm fairly certain growing up on Orchard Park means I can't be snobby about anyone else at all. Well other than the scum from Bransholme of course.

    Oi!

When it comes down to an 'estate off' between OPE and Bransholme there are three words that settle it stone dead.

    Dave The Rave.

Correct me if I'm wrong but you can't compete with that. You can't get anywhere near.

All true, it also doesn't say how many arrests lead to a conviction.

    I'm not from Goole either.

    Or Orchard.

I don't think being from either automatically suggests you're more likely to do something arrest-able.
