Alright lads! Well I was very happy to be able to watch my beloved Addicks on the box whilst tucking into a sunday lunch of bratwurst and rösti lol! it was also an excellent opportunity for me to compare with the carcrash match that was Nortwich Victoria. the NV match, well what really disgusted me about that was the total lack of committment. i was also devestated by our continual use of aimless long balls straight down NV`s throat. we were clueless and totally anti-football that day. sunday was completely different and i watched a game between two teams trying to pass the football. i dont think we were ever in danger...as has been our way this season, we defend well and the oppo tend to look like their wasting chances... they are not, we are just defending manfully and forcing the oppo to make mistakes under pressure. the opposite applies when we have chances, we are ruthless and tend to convert. so particular points of note; sullivan - one good save and lots of encouragement to his defence throughout. tempered by a general feeling of nervousness by we can forgive him that. he has obviously been looking at hamer`s excellent quick distribution and was trying to replicate that...with varying degrees of success Solly - sheer class all game. brilliant. if he was a lightweight boxer he would be world champion, as pound for pound the lad is nails. the st juste chance - solly correctly identified the danger and sprinted after the runner. a lot of fullbacks would have just let him go, and when st juste received the ball he would have scored with no challenge. instead solly put him under pressure and cleanly tackled the ball against st juste`s foot, causing a miskick. excellent timing. the strength he then showed to 50/50 through 2 challenges, great morro and taylor - consistent, committed, dangerous in the oppos box evina - my mom. clearly grew in confidence during. he has ALL the attributes. want to see more game time Jackson, Hollands, Hughes - all committed, did well. did their jobs to a man Wagstaff - poor. he clearly had the beating of them. just didnt want to test them out on the outside. disappointing until the last 10 mins Hayes - poor game. committed by when his tricks and flicks dont come off, there isnt much else. was on his heels for one ball by Evina in the 1st half, this is inexcusable. you should be ready for the chance. Euell....absolute stinker. i loved jase in the mid-naugties...great charlton stalwart. but he is past it, looks clumsy and gives away fouls...a classic indicator of someone off the pace. i dont like his self-chosen role as "enforcer" either. no need to start fighting after the red card. dont bring the good name of charlton down, thats twice this season at least he has been getting involved with "afters" special mention...bradley pritchard. what a loverly cameo. such talent on the ball
"the NV match, well what really disgusted me about that was the total lack of committment. i was also devestated by our continual use of aimless long balls straight down NV`s throat. we were clueless and totally anti-football that day". Thats Parky all over
gutted to get only 1 comment as dont have much opportunity to write anything match related. anyhows, cheers houndal!
Sorry Calydon - no time to read this at lunchtime. Very perceptive view of the game IMO - I thought Solly just shaded MoM from Evina and I doubt we'll see a better piece of defensive play all season than the St. Juste tackle. I think Evina's problem is that when Wiggins was still bedding in and looking a bit shaky defensively, Evina was injured. Now Wiggins is playing out of his skin, Evina's first team opportunities are going to be restricted - not bad to have in reserve, though. Couldn't understand Wagstaff's approach at all - he kept berating the referee for that invisible foul and seemed just to lose interest thereafter when he couldn't get a reaction. With so much competition for midfield places, not a very bright move. If Pritchard is anywhere near 45 minutes fit, let's see him on the bench on Saturday and bring him on as an impact substitute. He caused trouble immediately he came on against Halifax and looked raring to go - with 14 goals from midfield last season, his attacking credentials are there for all to see.
HI Caly - howzit going mate ? yeah - same as Tewkes - especially busy at work today. Agree with your comments - thought Solly was def MOM - certainly more so than Taylor - dunno where they got that from . Also agree with Tewkes re Evina, seems like we have a solid back 4 - maybe they could use Evina as backup for the whole back 4 ? Dunno about your comments re Hollands and Hughes - thought apart from goal and last ditch tackle respectively, they were poor and anonymous. Euell was dreadful, gave no backup to Hayes or the midfield. Dunno what he thought he was meant to do - whatever it was, he didnt do it. One thing for me was the fact that i wasnt on edge thinking we were going to concede - back four were great - and that is a sign of a really good team - like Brian Clough used to say, you build from the back. Morrison continues to impress. A professional performance.
solly and evina man of the match to me non stop running throughout love to see more of both of them in the first team evina on that display deserves a run at least up to xmas see what he can do?euell and hayes where very poor and should be moved on to pastures new come jan and get them off our wage bill as both of them look like they couldnt give a **** we need tryers in the team so i think cp might bring in a couple strikers come jan
Sorry Caly from me too, I read this at lunch but forgot my password to reply... I thought Evina looks like a good player agreed. I'd really like to see both him and Wiggins up the left, with Jacko in central midfield. As Jim Beglin alluded to, JJ is wasted on the left. Every match report someone on here writes we give him 7 out of 10 and put 'nothing special, solid.' I think if he was in the centre he'd be more involved and creative. It's a nice problem to have. Hayes and Euell both had a shocker. Hayes looks low on confidence to me, whereas Euell was just a yard behind everything and as someone else has said on here, clumsy and just fouling folk. It's sad but he's not offering us anything. Really disappointed not to see Benno or Alonso.
Hayes knows that as long as Kermit and BWP stay injury free he has very little chance of getting back in the starting 11, must be quite frustrating for him seeing as he did very little wrong before Kermit arrived. Benno MUST be on his way out if Powell thinks playing Euell, who is now focusing on his coaching rather than has playing. I think it's a shame, because he can offer something to this team, and is certainly more of a goal threat than either Hayes or Euell.
ah you guys...ha ha feel appreciated again lol. like the notion of evina LW with jackson and hollands CM. think those two could dovetail nicely.
I'd like to see this some point in the season as well, especially with the ability and pace of having both Wiggins and Evina down the left flank - Certainly couldnt see Jacko having any issues in the centre of midfield
You know we love you, cal. As much as cheese and cuckoo clocks. Well, not sure about the clocks, but I love a good Stilton!
I don't think a Wiggins (LB), Evina (LM) combo would work well at all, Wiggins is great going forward but pretty poor defending (which is where JJ's solidness comes in handy), two short pacey players on the left would only be problematic in my opinion. I don't think a CM pairing of JJ and Hollands would be great either, mainly because they're quite similar in style (playmakers with an eye for goal and decent in the challenge), but more importantly, because the right-footed CM - left footed CM has been a key part of the balance in our starting 11 this season, and playing two left footed CM's together may quash that balance.
It might seem I always disagree with you, WWOCB, but I don't think wiggins is awful at the back. Apart from the first few games I think he has handled most who come up against him. He's better going forward no doubt, but I think he's a bit of an all rounder
Sorry not to post on here Caly but I've been discussing Super's views relating to Euell on another thread and that has taken up a lot of time. The amount of effort Super is making on FM12 is starting to have a negative effect of his real life Charlton views!
Most young full backs tend to be good going forward, and suspect defending, it's the modern style. Solly is that rarity, a full back who's main strength is defending. As a result, Wenger signed Jenkinson for £1m. You suspect that George Graham or Don Howe would have preferred Solly!
