sensible did you go today........the pasoti crowd have not one good word for Fletcher's team. They say that there was no sign of any form of attacking ability......that's putting it kindly. Ok Birmingham did look a good team......but there was only going to be one winner with Argyles defence versus's Birminghams attack. Can't wait to hear about are lads working their little socks off...when Fletcher comments....so painful to listen to. Did anyone else go to the public hanging.
I generally don't do pre-season matches so the answer is no plym. Not much sign of praise on ATD either but there again nothing unusual there is it. Some of the posters on there give me the screaming abdabs if I'm honest. There doesn't seem to be much room for any reasoned debate unless you just call everything crap. I'm not that interested in what the team does yet. It's what happens when the season starts or there is something in a match that counts. I am not exactly overwhelmed at the moment with any of the Argyle stuff but I'm not going to write them off just yet as some appear to be doing. I wish we hadn't re-signed all of the players we have and I wish that we had signed some experience but we are where we are for better or worse.
The problem is that goals win matches........and if your not making chances you have a slight problem in that department. Chadwick and Feeney do not seem to have any goalscoring potential.......but of course they are only as good as the service they receive. PASOTI and ATD have both an amazing depth of negativity at times......I have never been a Fletcher fan,on or off the pitch......but these lot make me look a total amatuer when commenting about Fletchers abilities or lack of ability.........I havn't read Fletchers post match comments yet........I shall probably read them through gaps in my fingers and by peeping over the settee.
i do not know what the score was, but brum beat us at home 2-1. we thrashed leicester 2-0 and drew home with wolves 0-0. best of luck with the season. floreat salopia. we have the small matter of leeds away on saturday in the cup. still onwards and upwards
Read most of the available match write-ups on yesterdays match.....and cannot find one comment from Fletcher yet.......very strange ?
Football's about a balance between the various parts of the team. When you concede 5 [twice in a few games], I don't think the first concern, it's the defence - and yesterday's side contained pretty much the first pick back 4. "Only the second goal by the prodigiously talented Redmond – a thumper from outside the box – was down purely to the skill of the opposition. For the other four, Argyle contributed, to a greater or lesser extent, to their own downfall. Burke had already split a hesitant defence to tee up Redmond for the opener, when he seized upon a cock-up between goalkeeper Rene Gilmartin and skipper Darren Purse to fire home the second in the 55th minute." And re the lack of comment from Fletcher, if the most recent result the BBC can list on their website is the Yeovil game, 3 weeks ago, I think we can deduce the press aren't very interested.......
No match comment from Fletcher ? Pasoti rumours....... that Fletcher "stormed off after the match" Wotton was not to pleased about being subbed.....so the rumours say...and told Fletcher so........not looking to good for the new season !!!
Fletcher has commented that friendly result don't matter.........ok there isn't any league points at stake thats true.......but I feel results do matter to the confidence of the team. I cannot remember Sir Alex Ferguson saying that friendly results don't matter.....or the majority of managers up and down the country saying it either. Winning can become a state of mind..........losing 5-0 more than once can also leave it's mark as well.......playing game after game with different players and systems just leaves you confused and certainly not ready for the seasons start.
playing game after game with different players and systems just leaves you confused and certainly not ready for the seasons start Well that's what England have done for years and look where it got them........... errr maybe you have a point.
I don't agree plym. For me the object of pre-season is to play a reasonably competetive match and be able to assess both the fitness and form of ALL of the squad. It is inevitable to do that that there will be a lot of switching about of players. If you don't play them all then how do you assess where they are. Results are unimportant in the sense that nothing is at stake except maybe confidence. What narks me is that sometimes the smaller team players in these "friendlies" take it upon themselves to give an opposition player in the bigger team a kicking and causing injuries. That's just spite as far as I'm concerned but is the risk you take. I will judge the side on the first couple of games and when I've watched them in anger.
Spot on Sensible, although I still have a queasy feeling that the season will be a struggle. What does worry me about the Birmingham game is that the first choice back 4 conceded early goals after being pretty tight at the tail end of last season. Is that because Fletcher is trying to find a more offensive style with basically the same squad? If so, he hasn't succeeded yet and he will need to if we are to win matches instead of draw and end up in the top third and not the bottom.
Purse hasn't played so well as last season, and has dropped a few clangers which has led to goals.......is it because it takes awhile to get his old bones working after a lay-off or is it the responsibility of being captain ?
