This story seems to be unavailable at present even directly through Newsnow website.

At the time it happened there was a few raised eyebrows that it was legal.........but if it helped to pay the taxman at the time so be it.

There is a thread and a link on ATD which gives access to the full report. Having just read it all, it isn't happy reading is it. The input into this by Stapleton does not look good and it more than raises a couple of eyebrows for sure. The between the lines outcome of all of this is a strong suggestion that the Committee were duped into agreeing to the loan. I don't think it goes so far as to suggest it was illegal in a law sense of the word but certainly suggests it was close. The sad part is this was a group of people who probably thought they were doing what they did for the best and lost sight of what they were supposed to be doing. Led no doubt into it by somebody who knew better. If there was a way of ruining a business by publishing this or highlighting it in a certain trade's magazine then my view is it would serve them right.
