Just back from a match that Argyle were (in the end) very unfortunate to lose. The first 40 mins were woeful and doom and gloom was descending on home park with the fireworks on the Hoe looking like a more entertaining bet. Argyle looked off the pace and gave the ball away numerous times with the visitors fully deserving a 2-0 lead by way of two excellent goals with very little threat at the other end. Just before the break Allessandra completely miss hit a shot and the ball broke to Reid who put it past the keeper at the second attempt allowing the home team to at least have something to play for. Second half much improved and Reid leveled with a good solo attempt. The remainder of the second half and most of extra time was a complete reversal with numerous chances for Argyle. Allessandra hit the bar and Banton the post. It looked like we had thrown it away when Orient went 3-2 up but argyle came back to level via Mchugh who deflected a shot past their keeper. Harvey, Allen and Morgan on as subs and we went from strength to strength. Tyler had two cracking shots well saved at the near post and Mchugh also twice went close whilst Luke saved at point blank range to keep us afloat. Full time and the dreaded penalties ensued, Argyle were in front following a McCormick save and banton only needed to score to send us into the next round. Their keeper guessed right and somehow deflected the ball onto the underside of the bar and out of the goal and eventually Mchugh was the unlucky one whose saved pen led to Argyle's exit at the first round. Ignoring the first half, some good performances all round with captain nelson outstanding though Reuben not surprisingly was given MOTM. Despite ending up losing, the performance gives plenty or reason for optimism against lessor opposition especially the number of chances created. All in all, excellent entertainment for the 3500 who turned out-bring on Exeter!
Thanks Lyndhurst for your report..I listened to the game until it went into extra time..then no more commentary just text.. If I were rich i'd fly over for the Exeter game..
Found the radio programme just as the penalties where being taken.....I cringed when I heard that Banton was taking one.....although it was supposed to be a very good save...more than a poor penalty.
